Indeed and with Marshall Peterborough & Oxford having gone, there is no dealer for the whole of East Anglia, Cambridge, Oxford. These two didn't have the lure of Ferrari in their showroom too which definitely makes a difference

Quite. Maserati Peterborough was perched between Honda and Vauxhall.

In an ideal world that wouldn’t matter, but...

34k for carbon pack.....Now that's Maserati doing what they do best..Taking the rise. They make a great looking car that everyone is talking about and then price options like that.

If you compare it as a percentage of asking price it’s not too as bad as this: I bought a 3 year old 120d in 2007. The first owner had spec’d £13k of options!

The options list is dear; £34k for the exterior carbon pack :)

Yes, that one did stand out to me too but it's not just mirror caps, a boot spoiler and handles. I would imagine the front splitter and rear diffusor use up a fair chunk of carbon, not to mention the bonnet, but even so ...
The £19k carbon wheels need to be a bit special too!

I get that but this is one option......Not a chance that 34k is money well spent as no way would you get 34k more when trying to sell it on. They are taking p1ss.

if the configuration on the web site is correct the carbon pack is...

  • Dark exhaust tips
  • Rear diffusor in carbon fibre
  • Carbon fibre bonnet
Looking at the picture the bonnet is the engine cover which isn’t that big......If this is what you get for 34k surely that is just stupid money. Also I see steering wheel paddles are an option !!!!!!! Add a carbon roof, carbon brake discs, carbon engine cover, carbon boot spoiler and the other carbon bits and they must be knocking 80k or more just for options.....Although perhaps some of these are standard in certIn markets maybe........Think Maserati were with Ferrari for to long and learnt about option prices from them.....

Can’t help but think that carbon add-ons are so last year. I’ll certainly not be adding any carbon extras to any new car I spec.

And it will save you a shed load of money by the looks of it.........Always thought the front splinters/valance in carbon weren't that practical as if you get any damage it must cost a fortune to replace.....

Yup, you’re right, Andy. My Vantage has a carbon front splitter. Lovely looking thing. Bloody fortune to replace. Name me a more vulnerable part of a car than the front splitter and wonder why it could ever make sense to construct it from something so expensive.

I’ve never understood this carbon thing. In racing it’s used for lightweight strength but for most of these optional extras on road cars it’s just decorative and weighs the same as plastic. Surely doing it aftermarket would be much cheaper.

As for UK Maserati dealers what have they done? I remember a mate telling me a year before DL gave up Maserati that they were going to but PR wise they have all done it very discretely. Service centres don’t work IMHO as that’s just a run out relationship for a handful of years.

So how many dealers are left?

Sytner - Egham, Birmingham, Nottingham, Edinburgh
Carrs
H R Owen
JCT 6 billion
Parks
...any more?

What a sorry state of affairs. Mind with 900 UK sales last year who can blame those who have left the building.

Motorline Maidstone are still going I believe?

Yep looked on the Maserati UK website and the total number of sales outlets was eleven as above plus Motorline, Charles Hurst and a second H R Owen site in Manchester. So that’s an average of 80 ish new car sales pa per branch. No more than Ferrari but a quarter of the average price and I would think much lower margins on a much lower number of used car sales - Ferraris’ changing hands every 18-24 months is great business for the dealers as they will sell anything over 3-5 years old unlike Maserati dealers. Wonder how they fix it?

Having got my GTS serviced with Charles Hurst Ferrari, I can say they have been flat out with sales! The MC20 is unlikely to impress nee cliental unless the pricing/service packages are improved

I thought I was listening to it on mute but then realised I was not! Of course if supercars are going to sound flat then we are all as well going duracell. Looks great BTW.

As I said to Hr Owen, so in summary it is a £20k deposit against a car I wont be able to see for 3 months, let alone test drive for 6 months, without any way of managing depreciation as their is no finance packages yet, no options price list and its a Maserati with its own new engine and playing in new tech such as carbon fibre AND the deposit is non-refundable? Err I will pass for now....
