The thing that sticks with me was a few days after 9/11 was when I was at the station waiting for my train to London and I saw my mate Rob who worked for a company called Risk Waters.

He looked in a daze and I asked him if he was alright. He said he was totally shook up from 9/11. He then told me that he was on the phone to his US colleague who was on the 110th floor when one of the planes hit.
He just said “my mate said I think a bomb has gone off, the building has just shook, I’ll call you back”.

He called him back 15 minutes later telling him he’d loved working with him and that he should look after his family as he didn’t think he’d make it out.
my mate said the phone line cut out just as he said that.
He then watched on tv 30 minutes later the tower he was in come down.
:(:(:(
Geez thats awful.

Car crashes by driving everywhere

I used to work with a guy who wouldn't fly , he didn't like driving that much but drove all over europe because he thought it was safer.

That falling out of the sky for 5 minutes must be utterly terrifying but you've more chance of winning the euromillions lottery than dying in a plane crash
Now I understand:

Yup, I remember I was in The Hilton, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, frankly struggling and watching it live.
Then the first one fell down. Some Saudi bloke behind me started laughing.
I remember looking at him thinking that’s not funny. His behaviour wasn’t in line with many of the Saudi friends I’d made.
Terrible, but the consequences even more so.
I too was in a hotel in Saudi also watching on TV late afternoon - in Jeddah. There running a car launch event for Cadillac and even though everyone was polite to us then and the day after, there was definitely an undercurrent.

Our translator, a Palestinian bloke said "They like you guys but I think you should go home early."

Flew home on the 13th or 14th - 30 people only in a jumbo - never been so glad to see LHR.

My Lateral Guidance flight control senior designer wouldn't fly. The only way I could get him to Boeing was on a boat.
His flight control software was rigorously good

One of my daughters friends at high school (final year 11) has been confirmed covid-19. All those sat around her at school, and their families have to go into 2 weeks isolation.
And so it begins after only one week back at school.
We are waiting if my daughter is deemed 'at risk'....

Daughter not classed at risk however my 11 year old son has just come down with symptoms. High temp, caugh, snotty nose.
Going through the 111 Web site can you get a drive through test. You are joking.
School tomorrow will insist on a test, it could just be a cold...

You couldn't make it up, just had a bat flying around the lounge after getting in through an open window...

So the R rate in the UK is 1.7 according to the Independent and were several weeks ahead here in France getting 3 times as many infections a day over the UK we must have an R over 4.
Really quite confusing now.

The testing system has calapsed.
Yesterday for my son it was no test sites available.
Today you can't even get that far in the system.
You are advised to dial 119 if you have problems with the Web site, but again as soon as you have answered a few automated questions, you get please try later and you get cut off.

My youngest daughter was tested yesterday after running a temperature. So I'm now currently sat at home waiting for the result so that I can then go to work.
Getting her a test was quite straight forward and was carried out in a drive through service at Colchester football stadium. The results could come back today or maybe tomorrow. Both kids off school today, obviously, and both have a cold.

That all sounds pretty slick. I hope she'll be fine and the colds clear off. Thing is, children get colds and share them out all the time. We're on a hair-trigger now for anything that might be Covid.

Probably very much depends where you live.
Two weeks ago my 3 year old daughter had a very high temperature and was extremely lethargic, I went online and got her a test booked for the following morning at a drive through about 30 mins away.
Test was at 1030, results came back via email and text 5am the next morning.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to my daughter going back to nursery this week. If last winter was anything to go by, we'll be getting tested every month due to a cough, cold or fever

Children are small machines that turn fresh air, food and drink into buckets of snot and lumps of phlegm the size of oysters. They're a bloody marvel.

Managed to get in queue for 119 service.
Nothing available for testing.
What she did say is that all available bookings on-line are on the Web site from 8pm for the next day, and usually all gone by 8:30pm.
So if you are trying on the web site or via 119 outside of that window, forget it!
