Started the year at 17.4 and got down to about 16.1 by the end of March. But have now crept back up to 16.9 so need to knuckle down. The goal is to end the year a stone lighter than I started (so 16.4), and then repeat it next year, finally settling to somewhere in the low 15’s. Well, I can dream...

I have a similar long term goal to this... I will hit the big 50 next August, and I’d really like to be close to or under 80kg (or 12.5 stone)...

Anyone else out there using intermittent fasting this year? I’ve taken it up not just for the weight control benefits but also the supposed benefits at staving off various cancers (a frequent cause of demise in my family.) can’t say I’ve had perfect discipline but doing 16 hrs off of eating, 8 hours on, and making those meals sensible yet satisfying.

So far, far easier than straight calorie restriction. Another unexpected benefit is just how sensually satisfying that first meal is. I’ve actually been giving my dogs a midday treat of chopped carrots and savored a crunchy carrot as my first food of the day myself. Oh my.. forgot where I was talking, and here I’ve let on that I’ve savored a carrot.

Short story long, happy to chat about it, and the science behind it, as I’m a bit technical by nature. But this works quite well for controlled weight loss, and has many associated, and well proven, health benefits. Wish I’d done this whilst on those long overseas deployments where routine is easier to reinforce!

Need to stop having visitors here and get back into a routine again.

This. Not going to happen for a couple of weeks as we have b-day celebrations but....

Anyone else out there using intermittent fasting this year?

Yes. Daily Two ways I can look at it: Either it's controlled my weight (which despite my comments up there is, on average lower than in Jan) or it makes no difference at all.

So when you fast, is it just liquids? Coffee, soup?

For intermittent fasting, just zero calorie liquids. Or, if I have a strenuous morning workout planned, I’ll add a small protein shake, which isn’t technically fasting but does keep the fat burning going due to a lack of carbohydrates.

Have experimented the last few months with a “Lumen” device that uses your breath to determine if you are near or in ketosis, burning more fat than carbs. This has been truly helpful in seeing some ground truth vice guessing based on how I feel, and provides motivation to adhere to the plan.

Cardiologist appointment today.
Basically angiogram on 15th to check out there’s no blockages near or in the heart and then if that goes well i’m all set for the valve replacement on 1Nov.

Funny part was this.
I asked Cardiologist to refer me to a surgeon for the Op with an excellent track record for the bicuspid job.
“Yes, he said theres two I would recommend, a surgeon “X” in his 50’s and another in his 40’s”
Ok, I answered I’ll take the older more experienced one.......as long as he doesn’t have shakey hands (joke).
Cardiologist replies, “Actually the older one does have a tremble, but it does disappear when he operates. I need to tell you as when you meet him you’ll notice it”
Mrs and I look at each other in disbelief. “Are you kidding?”
Cardiologist “No”
We’ll go for the younger guy”I said quickly.

Would you risk it?

Not a f#cking chance ... and amazed he still has a licence to operate.
Apparantly it’s like a teacher with a stammer.....that can talk to a class or group without it.
We honestly thought he was kidding- presumably his license would be gone if he was a risk.

Yeah this.
If I stayed with him and met him....saw the hand I’d probably say “ hope that shakes not gonna be there next week” fake laugh.
He’d be conscientious, following week during surgery, pressure, subconscious recall, mental breakdown,......I’d be fecked.

By the way, can I just say he’s probably and almost certainly excellent.
I’m just not sure I need any more doubt or uncertainty than I already have.
