Where’s Swedish Paul when you need confirmation....

We’re vindicated, say Swedes after coronavirus cases hit new low
Sweden has registered its lowest rate of positive coronavirus tests yet even after its testing regime was expanded to record levels in what one health official said was a vindication of its relatively non-intrusive Covid-19 strategy. Over the past week the country carried out more than 120,000 tests, of which only 1.3 per cent identified the disease. At the height of the pandemic the proportion was 19 per cent. Johan Carlson, an epidemiologist and director of the public health agency, said that

Yes, it’s quite ironic that Norway and Denmark took the view that Sweden was naughty and should be excluded from the western world because the infection rate was so much higher than theirs, and now Norway and Denmark are seeing new highs.

The big thing they did wrong in Sweden was to protect the old folks homes. Deaths may well have been significantly lower if they had. And remember, Sweden has lots of pensioners that are older than 80. And the younger folks are mostly responsible and understand the concept of social distancing without having to be forced.

I hear there may be a requirement to wear masks in supermarkets soon. Why not? It can’t do any harm.

I remember it like it was yesterday. And it was 19 years ago!!!!:oops::oops:
Yup, I remember I was in The Hilton, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, frankly struggling and watching it live.
Then the first one fell down. Some Saudi bloke behind me started laughing.
I remember looking at him thinking that’s not funny. His behaviour wasn’t in line with many of the Saudi friends I’d made.
Terrible, but the consequences even more so.

I was working in Glasgow, and took the train home that night down the WCML, Kilmarnock line was closed for some reason, and got off at Lockerbie to be picked up by the missus.

Anyway, decided to have quick pint in the Bluebell, and in came this Dutch camera crew asking about 9/11 and Lockerbie etc. They where physically ejected by the locals....

I was working for AIG (Lexington to be exact) in London opposite Lloyds. After the first plane hit the tv in reception got turned on.
We then had most of our office watching it. I got there just as the second plane hit.
We all thought it was a replay, until someone pointed out that the other tower was already on fire.

I just remember the complete silence when it dawned on everyone what happened and what we had just watched.

We insured the first $10m xs $10m and then $15m xs $10m layers of both towers. It was my idea (not that I got any credit for it) that we should just pay out a total loss, and save a fortune in legal fees.
Which Lexington did. Made the news in the Wall Street Journal that AIG were the first company to pay out on WTC on 12th September.

I was driving to man trucks when it was reported the first one had been hit , told the security guys who shrugged their shoulders and said "nuffink about it on radio 1"
Came out 30 mins later and the choons still hadn't been interrupted by this world changing event.

From a historical perspective it's our generations JFK , everybody remembers where they were

Still remember it like it was yesterday, I was diving through Hanwell and heard about the first tower on the radio, I then pulled over and turned the car TV on (Rover 75 connoisseur, no less) and watched the 2nd plane hit on the tiny screen. Couldn't really take it in for a good few minutes.

Offshore at the time and watched it on tv
Could not believe what was happening
Poor poor people
I honestly believed another world war was in the offing
But yes no mention today
Only black lives matter, what about the kid who was shot on his way to school
I don't see F1 drivers paying homage or footballers et al

I remember watching it live just before leaving for Gatwick to catch a flight to a friend's wedding in Greece. Scene at Gatwick was shocking with all US bound flights cancelled and some Americans obviously very emotional.

Our flight was delayed by an 1hr as we had to identify our baggage on the apron before it was loaded, I believe our plane was one of the last to leave before the global flight ban was implemented.

Two friends who worked for Microsoft were in Western US on business and they were flown home a couple of days later on one of the corporate jets with a number of others - they were only low level Engineers so always gave kudos to MS for that.

One of my daughters friends at high school (final year 11) has been confirmed covid-19. All those sat around her at school, and their families have to go into 2 weeks isolation.
And so it begins after only one week back at school.
We are waiting if my daughter is deemed 'at risk'....

For me it's always tied in with Lockerbie because of the situation in my previous post and the effect Lockerbie had too at the time

I was sitting in my 'toblerone' shaped glass walled office working on a new Regional Jet development programme when one of my team called me over to look at what was happening on TV in the general office area. I couldnt believe my eyes. I instinctively called my brother immediately in Singapore and he was also watching it live on TV. I remember him saying that the world will never ever be the same again......and he was 100% right. 2 months afterwards my employer cancelled the Aircraft programme I was working on, after the market collapsed and made 1400 people redundant. Its was a pretty bad time. Sadly the world has been reeling from multiple conflicts ever since.

The thing that sticks with me was a few days after 9/11 was when I was at the station waiting for my train to London and I saw my mate Rob who worked for a company called Risk Waters.

He looked in a daze and I asked him if he was alright. He said he was totally shook up from 9/11. He then told me that he was on the phone to his US colleague who was on the 110th floor when one of the planes hit.
He just said “my mate said I think a bomb has gone off, the building has just shook, I’ll call you back”.

He called him back 15 minutes later telling him he’d loved working with him and that he should look after his family as he didn’t think he’d make it out.
my mate said the phone line cut out just as he said that.
He then watched on tv 30 minutes later the tower he was in come down.
