Holiday cost - Italy 2020

In the process of trying to sort out our holiday in France and Italy this September.

Using all the typical comparison sites but surprised, given all the talk about apocalyptic holiday price crashing, at just how strong the prices are.

Anyone any pointers to alternative, or should I hold off for a few more weeks?

I too am looking around the Ardennes now - many places are shut, so I am guessing it is still supply and demand (I've also just found a site for AirBnB, or whatever it is called which could be more competative - especially as we hope to stay in one place for several nights)

Certainly here in France it's all getting a little sketchy with this darn virus.
Since the borders have reopened and we no longer have to have attestations to move around the virus is coming back fast :(

This does seem to be a potential outcome from hard and fast lockdowns :(

Nothing booked as yet... seems like hotels are holding out at full costs for as long as possible... but any holiday is certainly not going to be as good as it was pre Covid.

Went to Spain two weeks ago.
It was great. Had loads of fun.

Going back to Spain in the near future.

Also got a long weekend, short driving trip, to France (Honfleur) planned.

My view is that if you are nervous or worried, don't go.
If you're really keen to go, then go with a positive attitude.

Also, when you do go, no one is forcing you to do anything, so if you don't want to go tor the beach. Don't. If you're worried about bars, don't go to them. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

I had quite a normal trip and had an absolute blast. Went to restaurants, bars etc. For us, it had very little impact.

Attitude is the major stumbling block.

As for prices, there's more availability currently, but prices are the same. I don't begrudge them that, they've had 4 months without business.

Compare that to the UK, where self catering holiday cottages, theyve put their prices up!

Nothing booked as yet... seems like hotels are holding out at full costs for as long as possible... but any holiday is certainly not going to be as good as it was pre Covid.

I think you'd need to accept its going to be different, and be happy with that. If you cannot, and you're sounding a little negative, then I'd advise you not to go.

Also, like booking anything, prices will either drop or go up as you near your departure, if you want to play that game you can, and you might get a good deal. You also might miss out. There's no COVID discount.

Only waiting ro ensure they are open... not spending £4k on hotels if they end up closed/bust and unable to get a refund in time for the break.

Not worried aboit Covid; we have both been working in Hospitals and Law enforcement all through the pandemic and this is the first break since Jan.

You should be covered as long as FCO guidance allows travel. Just double check with Credit Card/Travel Insurance

I've been looking and have seen the same. Prices very similar especially on the crossings. I may get the Rotterdam ferry back and thats still a fortune!

Like most if not all, all earlier holidays have been cancelled.
We have a weeks holiday first week in August booked for Jersey (booked last year), that has recently been cancelled due to easyjet cancelling the flights. We have however managed to push it back to the first week in September instead, which we already had booked off work, so hopefully that will be okay.
We do have to still take the weeks holiday in August however, understandably both my and the Mrs employer are no longer allowing holidays to be cancelled, they must all be taken this year.
Must say have no urge to travel to mainland Europe at the moment.

I'm holding off booking any holidays outside of the UK whilst there are growing reports of second waves. I wouldn't want to potentially be trapped in a foreign country for weeks or months.

We cancelled (well, postponed until summer 2021) our planned/booked family trips to the Loire Valley and Ibiza. But I am booked to go on a chaps trip to St Tropez at the end of September for a week of classic yacht racing. Thinking of going by car (and/or train), either in the Strad or, if I’m brave enough, the Westfield.

Forgot to say, there’s 20% of Brittany Ferry bookings for next year if you book by July 31st this year. I’ve just done this so am all sorted for next summer.

Just heard that Spain is back on 14 days isolated after return from midnight tonight... hmmm maybe I will stay here after all... I can't justify a enforced stay at home.

Plenty are going to be well pleased, not.
Can you imagine if you had just flown out today for a week or fortnight.
Your employer is most likely to know where you have been, sorry, no pay for two weeks.

I thought everyone was working from home for ever more?

We where booked in a gite in France for June this year with all the family. Managed initially in March to push that back to October and now I’ve again pushed it back to April next year. I’d be happy to travel to France in the car via the tunnel but there’s 11 of us in the family going and our grown up kids are nervous about being quarantined which is understandable.
