I bought the X pipe several years ago (as above) and if it’s still the same manufacturer I can confirm that they are of the finest quality, and well worth the money, and then some. The sound combined with my Larani sports back boxes is fantastic. But even before I fitted the back boxes the X pipe provided a noticeable improvement over stock. The build quality was also very good.

Hi Benny, without going into too much detail, what is the difference in sound between the two? Is it necessary to change the back boxes or won't I see much difference if I leave everything else as standard?

You can keep the rears, and you'll still see a significant differnence

The general view is that an H makes it sound more like a US muscle car, while an X leans more to the Italian massive.....

If you keep the standard rear boxes then the difference is is more subtle from standard.

Its noticeable but not too much in your face.

I will post a couple of you tube links. Showing a 4200 with a H pipe and standard rear boxes and then another video of the same car with a H pipe and tubi rear boxes.

Sparts / contigo also has a video of a H pipe and X pipe comparison video on another car.

Listen to them with headphones on and they should give you a much better idea.

There is a metric **** load of sound deadening material in the standard rear boxes.

You can probably have the rear boxes modded at a later point if you wanted more volume by either just removing some or all of the matting and have the option of retro fitting valves to give you quiet and loud mode under 3000 rpm.

X pipe is a higher pitched scream and the H pipe is a lower pitched growl.

You have to excuse the contigo / sparts video as they clearly had a bmw/audi indicator system fitted to the car. Indicating left while turning right ! :beat_brick::laugh:

The American cars have the X-Pipe as standard I believe. Personally, I prefer the X-Pipe, the car is a high revving V8 and you get that hint of Ferrari in that sound but it still retains that V8 growl. Everyone loves a good V8 noise but the standard 'muscle car' sound can be achieved with a lot of cars like the Jags, Mercs and Audis.

Here's another video of an X-Piped Maser:

All cars have an x-pipe as standard, but they all have a resonator as part of the assembly, this doesn’t and releases a bit more noise.

Whoop whoop! My X-pipe is fabricated and on its way to me...

I’m going to try to do some before and after vids, so I can easily listen to both and see the difference.

My car currently has standard rear boxes, an unsilenced H-pipe, and Larini decat race pipes and whilst it sounds awesome when accelerating hard in 2nd or 3rd, and gear changes are accompanied with a very aggressive snarl, it’s a bit muscle car ish, and not entirely to my taste.

So we will see what an x-pipe does to it...

Well I have a bog standard GS exhaust system with one change - the centre section has been replaced with an X-pipe. Mine does not sound ANYTHING like that in the video. Is it standard exhaust with X-pipe or has it been seriously hacked and modded? Curious.....
