Don't mind too much about spec, must have less than 70k miles and have full service history! No Cambiocorsa cars

Too low a budget for anything that doesn't want a lot of work.
Would have to be a project car or cat c/d car.

What about the black car on here? 73k miles, manual, seems to be in very good condition and full history, advertised at £10k

if you haven’t already done so, try before you buy. The manuals can be very notchy unless the cables are in good condition. I fancied a manual until I drove one and then bought a CC and I haven’t regretted it for a second.

You said it MUST have less than 70k. ?
Always a bit of room for movement if it means a big difference in price, couldn't do a CC, I know a lot of people love them but wasn't a fan on the one I drove and the frequent clutch changes don't excite me too much

Based in South Wales but happy to travel for the right car, again budget can vary but generally between £7k-£10k depends on the car
Okay, well that rules out my car by some margin then, so I’ll wish you luck with your search and leave it at that. You will find a car in that price range but a few brave pills will need to be swallowed and if you’re lucky you will get a bargain, if not then your garage bills could soon exceed your purchase price unless you are willing to do all the work yourself. As I said, good luck and keep us all posted on how you get on. By the way, mine is in Aberdeenshire, so a bit of a distance!

Thank you, and I do appreciate the advise! I work in the trade so I'm always looking for a bargain, otherwise I'd opt for a gransport! I'll keep everyone posted hopefully with a photo of my own car one day. Lucky enough to have a very talented mechanic as my father, between us we have owned a plethorough of performance cars and worked on a lot of them so never afraid to pick up a spanner!

And the CCs can be a money pit if the pump needs fettling or it's chewed its clutch. There are advantages to both systems. A well adjusted manual if fantastic in operation, just as a well adjusted CC is (especially with a new clutch.....)

Why less than 70k miles. Seems a bit arbitrary.
I've got a manual at 114k miles but it's not for sale. WRT what Benny said, it's a manual so only for real men.

Mine too is not for sale and is a manual with 103k on it. Smooth changes throughout all the gears.

There is an old saying that the only thing more expensive than a cheap Porsche is a cheap Maserati. Even if you do all the work yourself, parts prices can be eyewatering. You can't swing a cat at one of these without hitting something that costs thousands. Spend some time on Scuderia, or Ricambi, or other parts places looking at prices for parts. Look up @lambertius posts, all those parts he's working on are either NLA, or very expensive. The money spent upfront on a better car will return more to you than trying to buy cheap and fixing it. I have a manual car and love it, but IMHO any 4200, cc or manual bought for less than 10k is a poor investment. Loz is the exception......

I spent most of this year looking for the exact same thing - a manual 4200 with reasonable mileage and there aren't many out there. Well there never really were.

I too am in the trade. If there had been any reasonably straight examples, with decent history under 70k miles for 7-10k, it would already be up my drive. There wasn't, so I blew my own (12K) budget anyway. I'm good at that. I have form.

I bought one in the end a few weeks ago but had to pay significantly more than our budgets.

The gearbox is good for a cable shift, although somewhat truck like. The only thing that did surprise me was that it seems a very close ratio box for such a torquey big capacity lump. I loved my old Cambiocorsa but I do prefer this.

Good luck with the search. They are great cars and are still very undervalued IMO. Mine is a keeper.

Can confirm - you either get it cheap because you enjoy the project, or you spend the time looking for a well sorted one.

And that, to me, is exactly why I like a manual over a cc car. With all that torque, you can drive in almost any gear with the manual, while the cc box ( being essentially a sequential transmission) makes you shift through every gear.
