Agreed...but my Mum was in a care home for 7 years and it cost £385k out of her and my Dads estate leaving not a lot left when she passed away in 2014. It was costing at one stage £1300 per week...plenty of money to buy PPE well in advance of this kind of crisis!. But no, the owners and the companies who run these places are quite happy to fleece the old dears and their families and keep the money for themselves and their shareholders. So the people I feel really sorry for are the forgotten residents and the staff on the ground looking after them, most of whom are on minimum wage. It's high time this scandalous and unscrupulous behaviour by many ( not necessarily all) is properly investigated by the UKG. When the care home manager turned up at my Mums funeral in a new Range Rover then there is clearly something wrong....just saying.
Ironically it is those costs that make some elderly book permanent berths on cruise ships.
Travel the world, all the food you can eat with entertainment, doctors and healthcare on board.....and it used to be safe.

Now thats a great idea!
Maybe I will do this in about 20 years time or so but I would have to sell the country pile first.

I have been on 3 cruises in the last 2 years and this is exactly right.
It opened up a whole new world I did not know existed.
If you pay top wack during our winter months you get a suite, butler, drinks, hot weather, beaches etc (and maybe Covid) for around £4500 (each) two week trip (Caribbean). I met people who had a bolt hole apartment in Lowestoft and the rest of the year they were on a cruise

Is it me or is the BBC just completely incompetent! At yesterdays UKG daily Covid-19 update, they presented slides on TV with the data missing on the edges of each slide and today they didnt present any slides at all, other than having them in the background while Prof Chris Witty was talking through the stats, so you couldnt read them. This is really basic stuff!! Morons...

I flipped over to sky news and they were presenting slides perfectly. It was a BBC fault as you say.

Can anyone explain why when you look at the death rate graphs for some of the 'devolved administration' countries in the UK ie. Scotland, Ireland and Wales, their curves look virtually flat or at best follow a very broad shallow curve, while for England it looks like the death rate rose higher but is falling much faster? The difference is quite significant . So what is it that the devolved Govts of Scotland, Ireland and Wales have not been doing, which England/UK have?

Probably a function of smaller less dense populations rather than actions by the devolved governments.

Agree. Because of the wider spread population the curve flattened more in the 3 other countries whilst England hit a real pointed peak because of certain areas density of population.

I dont buy the density / geographical spread argument...I live in one of the most rural areas of the UK ( Cumbria) yet it is the No.1 hotspot for Covid -19 now. And it's in both towns and villages miles away from any major cities. So this cant be the only reason.
