There are various question marks around this whole scenario which at some stage need to have answers , without doubt he (Dyson) has the production capacity , and although i dont know the specific components required for a ventilator I would like to hazzard a guess patents or blueprints in the time of need will be shared voluntarily for the greater good ,

Just get the sneaky feeling this is all about preparing us for something far bigger and far more important to come

If there's an expectation (and there is) that this filthy virus will resurface at some point, then hospitals / govts will need to have access to more ventilators than usual. If I had the means to spin up a production line of ventilators and flog hundreds of k units to many countries then I'd be shouting about it from the rooftops. Or from Singapore, in the case of Lord Sir Dyson, Disloyal Order of the Expat.

They've never built them before and have been awarded a contract to make 10k of them. Doesn't inspire confidence and an experienced manufacturer commented they take weeks to build the components.

They seem to be behaving far better than we are. Plus have you ever seen an Indian policeman? They carry very long sticks and have absolutely no hesitation in using them.

IME it's a far more hierarchical society with greater respect for authority. This may not be universal, though!

Does this Dyson ventilator contract ( to a company with no ventilators) smack of the ferry contract to a company with no ferries?
I'm a currently working as a contractor at a consultancy developing a ventilator for Dyson.

This consultancy has a massive portfolio of designing and manufacturing all types of medical devices and equipment and are more than capable of designing a product that works, complies with all medical standards and can get it into production with incredibly tight timescales. A team of more than 20 of the best physicists, mechanical and electronic engineers and software developers in the country are developing this for Dyson.

Some of the guys on the team are doing 15 hour days and 7 day weeks for over two weeks now. I was brought into the project quite late because they thought I had gone on holiday to NZ, but CV-19 put a stop to that. I'm bloody shattered and I've only done 4 days!

I'm now having a couple of hours rest just waiting for the first batch of prototype electronics to come in tomorrow and I'll be back on it.

Fantastic.
I have a friend at Mercedes F1 and says they are doing the same along with Prodrive.

Here is a render of the unit I've been involved in developing. The electronics that I and five other guys designed are inside the box mounted on the side of the bed. I must say I'm very proud to be working on such a fantastic project.

The first prototypes are being built tomorrow and if all goes well, production will be begin immediately. Three weeks from inception to prototype is incredible for a medical device.

It’s an interesting approach to focus on mass production of ventilators, and is attention grabbing when it includes major manufacturers. The voices I am hearing from front line anaesthetists is that they haven’t focused on protecting the specialised staff they have to man them. If it pans out as they expect. There will be a lot of ventilators and no one to man them. One senior ITU consultant said, its all very well getting these machines- but it take takes over 30 years to ‘produce’ the staff to wo(man) them.

An Incredibly intelligent and hard working team. I hope they are used effectively and save lives. The best of British engineering.

My mistake, 12 days to get to prototypes!

Not to me; it smacks of (strange expression that, I must look up its origins) asking a company with a strong design skills and experience in small plastic device manufacturing to help out at a time of unprecedented demand.

Good luck! Despite the exhaustion, this must be a great project to work on.

Good to know someone is doing something useful while the rest of skulk at home being paranoid, complaining or making pointless spreadsheets.

Presumably you are not suggesting that the people working on making ventilators should stop doing that because it is attention-grabbing, or because there might even be a surplus?

Maybe they should combine it with having un-protected sex and / or cloning? ;)

But perhaps there is some (less publicised) attempt to make / distribute the PPE required to protect the experts?
