UK counts up to 8. All from 1 infected person. How many have the affected 8 been in contact with? Lots more on the cruise ship now also infected.

I still think its very low risk but will be an interesting few weeks. Would be interesting to see people who have just waved it off as a cold or flu (lots of this in my family at the moment anyway)

Yes Extremely.
The virus is spread by human-human contact and further it can live on surfaces for 4-10 days. Its currently spreading uncontrollably now.

The Uk super spreader proves that it is undetectable with Temp guns as he had travelled here there and everywhere. It is virtually undetectable until you present symptoms. Govt action is therefore a total waste of time.

Until every country with exposure locks its citizens down for a period of 14 days (like the 400million plus in China in self imposed isolation) it will continue to be rampant.....infecting tens of thousands and ultimately millions. This action would identify sufferers.

The nhs will be swamped otherwise and scenes similar to Chinese wards will occur. The government is now trying to trace a constantly moving and increasing target of infectors.....daily.

If it doesn't happen soon the consequences will be unimaginable as case numbers explode, along with the death toll.

China is covering up the severity.

One overlooked horror of this illness in China (elsewhere?) is that if you catch it, you potentially die alone- as your family are not allowed anywhere near you.

That is an awful prospect for anyone finding themselves a sufferer.

It might seem a little callous, but 1400 people died in the U.K. Today. Or perhaps, falling trees killed more people today in the U.K. than the Coronavirus.

As a wise man once said, worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.

Ok. How many people died in China today? Let’s pro-rata it from the U.K. population, even though we know the mortality rate is higher there. 1,300,000,000 / 63,000,000 = 20.63. 20.63 x 1400 = 28,882. But 97 of them were from the Coronavirus. Or 0.3%. Sensible precautions are a good idea, but a sense of perspective is also useful.

Firstly I hope no-one here is affected by the terrible weather the Uk has been experiencing. It looks truly awful.

Whilst I admire your scientific approach to things my gut feeling approach is far simpler.

If 50-60000 Chinese are being tested each day for the virus (not a big %of 400,000,000) But Chinese labs running at max capability can only process, say 20000 per day, then the virus infection rate will never increase more than 20,000 per day. In the meantime the backlog of cases is piling up and those potentially infected are returning to their families to await the results.

This backlog is getting bigger and bigger and those awaiting results could be infecting other family members in the meantime! Look at the infection rates on those ships......look at those tower block communities in China!

Those displaying symptoms in China then become human cattle, look at the facilities they’re being treated in, dwindling supplies, rows and rows of beds, inadequate numbers of exhausted medical staff, surrounded by other patients with the disease in a medical system swamped by the infection. They are in beds praying ying they don’t die!

In the Uk Two doctors treat say 20 patients a day, (infected for how long before discovery?) the doctors/patients go home to their families, kids, who go to school /work and who interact with friends/ colleagues and they then interact with others who interact with others and on and on and on..........

Dominos. The Uk may already have hundreds of infected right now. We’ll find out in around 14 days and then the cat is well and truly out the bag (sorry for introducing cats)

The NHS is heavily criticised now....where earth would it treat 1000, 2000, 10,000 cases?

There is no logical way the Chinese data is accurate.

You do not lock down 400 million for less than a 1000 deaths.
Referring to your “sense of perspective” remark above that action seems totally out of perspective.....unless they know something they are not disclosing!!

The WHO knows how bad this is but is using subtle language. They have been woefully inept before.

I’ll keep getting the info on CV I value here. I know governments are acting incorrectly given the basic knowledge of the virus.....available to all. The Uk govt for example is advising individuals to self isolate even though they cannot possibly know if they are infected for up to 14 days!...they’ve been carrying on as normal and then fall ill! Ridiculous.
www.zerohedge.com

Unfortunately, nothing Western Governments are doing now will contain this. Thus the panic in tracing an increasing number of targets and the targets they’ve contacted will go on ad infinitum unless they change something.

I noticed there are now 3 confirmed Indian cases.........

I alluded to this many posts ago.

The great thing about all this is that if the virus eventually fizzles out, having killed a couple of hundred people more than the regular level of deaths from 'flu etc, then we can take the píss out of Wattie for ever for being a silly scaredy-pants, but if he is right then most of us will be dead and civil society will have broken down, the UK will be like Zombieland, and nobody will be reading or posting on this forum (apart from Andy saying 'good morning'), so Wattie will never get the credit for being totally right. Win-win.

I’m not going to get into a lot of this stuff. Fear is a natural response to a threat, but you have to understand that some people who are saying these things are motivated by something other than your continued health. You remain statistically more likely to be hit by a bus than catch the coronavirus. But I do have one link for you. I’m not suggesting you are a troll, but the likes of ZeroHedge and other “alternative-learning” sites are.

It's the same old same where the people are never told the truth just the politicians and they can't be trusted as you only have to look at current politics.
We the people just find what we find and we all know how messy it all gets :(

I’ve a couple of devils onboard, not into pints but the wine cabinet looks strong.
Take your point tho, we’re stocking up and being very careful with our movement beyond the front door.

600 people die in the U.K. of Flu in 2008 this rose to 13000! Can’t remember there being a lock down.

the Coronavirus is not reported to be a death sentence to everyone who contracts it, and most recover without specialist treatment.
