I read an article last week which actually said that DPF's on some diesel cars are so good now that they actually clean out more 'nasties' out of the air than they spew out. So if they can come up with a system which also does what 'Adblue' does for nitrous oxides but for CO2, then we would be sorted. Can't be that hard can it?
For many years I used a KleenOil by pass oil filter which, when I had oil analysed, turned out to have cleaned the engine oil to better than new - after 10,000 miles. That was on a 6.7L Cummins. I'd use one on any motor where I had space (which isn't many these days!)

When I was working at a 'nuclear power station' - secret, made stuff for MoD, me and my mate, the Chief Reactor Physicist talked about this, and the reactor in Nuclear sub is about as big as an old dustbin ie not wheelie bin, though that does work, just didn't exist then, pretty small, but a sub is pretty big, so we worked out a car one would only need be the size of a teacup, or a man-sized mug for a Maser, but the issue was you can't miniaturise fission (or is it fusion?) it doesn't scale down much like you couldn't make a 1/72nd scale internal combustion engine work.

This was years ago though - who knows what's happened since....

They are a fair amount bigger than a dustbin in a sub, I like the idea of a little boot mounted reactor in a car though!

My tuppence for what it's worth

  1. The petrochemical industry has been so powerful they stifle any meaningful research into alternatives until recent times
  2. We are being blinkered if we think we can fix the current environmental issues in this or even the next generation, even if we stopped today it would take years for the past **** we have created to be cleared, or break down
  3. Until we come up with an alternative to batteries electric transport is always going to be as bad, albeit in different ways, to fossil fuels
  4. We can't and shouldn't stop other countries wanting what we and other industrialised countries have.
  5. This is a world wide issue and small local changes whilst positive are just drops in the ocean.

In my mind governments need to work together to, at best maintain the current position or more realistically slow down the current process. Basics like subsidise countries who have large natural forests to not chop them down for palm oil plantations or mines for battery components, increase research on non fossil fuel energy (even if this means increasing the tax on the current industry), slow down ther over production of kit, including cars - cheap finance deals and built in obsolesce are driving and unsustainable market but the biggest (and one most likely to fail) is getting governments to work together, we can't get ours to work as one so what chance do we have of getting the big boys to play nicely FECK ALL

Sorry should this be on rant thread

Spot on..another great illustration that there is NO strategy anywhere in world!

Plant more trees!.....best and cheapest way to remove CO2. You should see what they are doing in Cumbria and Lake District ...thousands of acres of previously open moorland now being planted out. Lots more to come yet....

These are the same governments that can't see beyond their noses but are capable of a global cover up? Just want to make sure I'm clear :D
