Unless they have changed the rules/ process (they promised they would) that firearms officer will have been suspended already pending the investigation - complete madness
I disagree that it‘s madness they are suspended - it’s procedure for any incident involving a firearms officer discharging their weapon. It ensures due process and investigation. The outcome however, given the limited video footsge release of the seconds before the shot was fired would appear to validate the shot, a device strapped to the body of the perpetrator, reasonable assumption it’s a bomb, shoot to kill and protect life. Had he not been wearing that, given he’d already been disarmed then I doubt the officer would have fired.

They're saying the 'vest' was a hoax bomb vest, obvs the officer wouldn't know that so did what he did, but what's in it for perp? Could it be it wasn't a bomb vest at all at the officer overeacted to say, a padded top or something? Something seems odd, no doubt we'll get to find out...

Meanwhile - the Corbaiting has started...

Imagine if everytime you did part of your job you were suspended !

nothing wrong with them investigating, but suspending is madness and one of the reasons we don’t have enough firearms officers.

Something very fish here! The knife is clean, no blood on it, and the hero guy who grabbed it on the vids I've seen throws a 'package' of some sort out of his left hand pocket.

No part of my job results in the potential a death of someone as a direct result of a conscious decision on my part. surely the suspension is to ensure the officer is also protected and not open to accusations of collusion in the investigation?

apparently the scum had 2 knives, one was duck taped to his wrist, the more i learn about this the more I am so impressed by all the heroes who tackled him and pinned him down whilst arv's were en route thus preventing further stabbings and fatalaties

Martyrdom, increased fear and more opportunity to cause terror as people are far less likely to approach someone that's wearing a bomb.

Suspension is not some sort of punishment or negative judgement. It is a part of the standard process to make sure that the investigation is done properly, and to make sure the officer involved is not over-stressed, etc. Not madness, but a very sensible approach. The alternate approach would be "Yeah, mate, I know you just shot someone, but that is just routine, and I need you back at work at 8am tomorrow, and try not to worry about what happened today, or about being tracked down and harassed by the press and general nutters in the next few days. Oh, and the inquiry team will be giving you a call soon - try to make time during your normal working day to talk to them."

Usman Khan out on licence from a previous terrorist related crime in 2012.

Lovely.

who knows how many other prisoners have been radicalised by him in prison and that have been released and/or about to be released, should introduce "chain gangs" for these dangerous animals and keep them in prison for life, the security services clearly cant be tracking them 24/7 for years on end

The 'package' was probably him disposing of fake moon rocks supposedly brought back to earth by Neil Armstrong after the Apollo 11 so-called 'moon landing'. Wake up sheeple!

Reading the news this morning apparently he was confronted by a guy with a fire extinguisher, one armed with a narwhal tusk and two tour guides from an Italian Job themed tour in Minis!
