I have been told that following an alleged speeding offence, in this case being possibly caught by a camera van that the police have to notify the offending person within 14 days. Does anyone know whether this is 14 working days or just 14 consecutive days? Asking for a friend.

I don’t think it’s straight forward, this a quote from one of the many website on the subject:

“The Police must serve the Notice of Intended Prosecution to either the driver or the Registered Keeper within 14 days of the alleged offence. If they are out of time, the driver cannot be convicted of speeding. However, the rules about how the 14 days are calculated are fairly complicated, and just because you didn’t receive the form, doesn’t mean you can’t be prosecuted”

NIP must be issued within 14 calendar days of the offence but the date on the letter is the important bit as there is nothing in Statute about it being received in a timely manner (or indeed at all!)

And, as has been said, it may take significantly more time to reach you if a lease car, hire car, company car etc.

This, though should say 'alleged' offence :)

Thanks for all your replies. It's 17 days now since I crossed the path of a camera van so having heard nothing yet I'm hoping I'm going to be ok.
