Had a quick look across the usual car websites and was a anazed (and depressed!!)how many spyders are currently up for sale and some of the prices they are going for is peanuts!! 12 on Autotrader alone.

There is also such a variance is price. It is very difficult to work out how much my 04 would be worth in the market

Thought this one looked excellent value. So
Much car for the money absolutely crazy

Quite a few of these have been up for sale through the Summer too. This is fairly new though and looks very good value:

FSH, new clutch, flywheel, release baring, overhauled brakes (?), low mileage, etc. Think this was for sale about 3-4 years ago north of £30K.

As with any 16 year old 4200 short wheel based derivative with all the problems associated with a car without a roof
As they made so many you cant really be surprised!

I think the car in the op is now sold.
3 of the cars on Auto Trader were Biturbo Spyders, 1 of the 4200's is a cat-d which seems a bargain.
Like most classic/oldish performance cars prices have dropped, add in time of year and current brexit uncertainty and we are where we are. I reckon they will go up again in time.

I personally don’t see that as good value. A pre facelift Spyder has to be well under £20k in the current market, IMO. (Unless it’s an ultra low mileage museum contender, which this one isn’t.)

About 10 years ago I sold my last one for about £12k when it had done maybe 50k miles. They were cheap back then, then went up a bit wth the general classic car rise, and have now dipped back. Mid teens is the selling price of a reasonable mileage car in good nick.

If you take into account the recent works and a little negotiation imho it is good value. It isn't always about the bottom line though is it. Ime, at least, it is a more desirable example than the facelift.

I still think the Spyder is a pretty car, I think the proportions are just right for a convertible. The £23k one has low miles, new clutch and brakes and what appears decent service history which if proves correct is all positive. £23k is top money but there probably is some movement in there. I would be tempted by another at some point

This is a facelift car isnt it ? Not just the grill but the puckered lips !!
Does a facelift Spyder get you away from scuttle shake. ? Its the thing that puts me off most, before 'automatic' gearboxes, and interior colour combos...

It is a facelift yes. Which, in addition to cosmetics, had a number of mechanical improvements over earlier models.
Some of which resulted in less scuttle shake. But doesn't eradicate completely - which is just one of the "joys" of open top driving
Someone put it quite nicely on another thread recently in that convertibles are better suited to a more serene driving style. Which is not for everyone.

The OP car is a facelift. The car in Navcorr's post is not.
The early cars do suffer from shake. From this era, Porsche knew how to take the roof off a car, Maserati didn't. But they did get better over time. That said, no one should buy a Maser Spyder like this without testing one along an imperfect road, as the degree of scuttle shake is sufficient to spoil the experience for many people (me included).
Benny has hit on a good solution though. Make the car so loud that the scuttle shake becomes the last thing on your mind!
