Selling my 4200 & Chimaera - 2 into 1 - Thoughts on replacement?

I have decided to sell me blue 4200 and my Chimaera. The plan is to sell the two and buy a better more expensive interesting car. Anyone done anything similar and have any thoughts.

I won't do many miles in it so looking for something more special. I thought initially to go for a better TVR but not so sure. The Aston itch is still there. A GT would be too big as I have the XJL SS already. So much out there it is hard to pin it down.

The 4200 is up for sale in another thread. Any help or advice to the ad and improvements are always welcomed ;)

Not sure what your price point is or what you want but I have 3 cars on my "if I can sneak it into the garage without Mrs Hawk realising" list

Morgan 3 wheeler
Alfa 8C
Caterham R500

I also like the new Renault Alpines (as well *** being on the lookout for a good classic GTA)

Budget was £25k-£30k. I could make it more but would mean selling some others. I could sell the XJL SS but like that. Pushes the budget to £45k-£50k then.

The sensible thing to do would be to sell my first 4200 keeper. That would get me to £50k-£55k. If I add the XJL SS & 4200 and sell 4 into 1 I'm then up to circa £70k-£75k I guess.

I think the 8C might be out of my budget somewhat! Unless you find someone who I can steal one from at £75k!!

I think you need to pin down what you want it for, and uses. Your selection, all interesting, are all very different. If I were selling those two I'd get a Gransport.

Absolutely.
A blast type of car, Lotus, or more weekend away touring GT car.

This is exactly what I was thinking - and what is interesting depends on what you want to use it for.

I can’t really see how it would make sense to own a Gransport and a 4200, but if what you’re really doing is swapping out the Chimaera for another fun 2 seater toy car, then I can see how a more modern Lotus would be a great shout. Slightly different (cheaper) alternatives would be an MX5 a MR2...

Use is non specific really. Nothing in particular really. Won't be for work just for a bit of recreational fun. Possibly an odd track day. An occasional no reason drive.

I agree having the 4200 and GS wouldn't make sense it would have to be one or the other. I don't see me changing my 2007 4200 for a GS though.

I have never had an MX5 and this is on my shortlist. The Lotus also the same. I could easily keep the existing TVR Chimaera and add the MX5, Lotus but then I am getting up to more cars again. Not as problem per se but maybe an MX5 is a bit closer to a Lotus so maybe either/or would be better rather than both. Maybe an MX5 would make sense and maybe do some stuff to it like BBR Turbo etc. that would be interesting.

In a way I wish I never moved house and had multi car insurance for 10 cars as has added complications I never had before!

MX5's are good, but you can't compare to a Lotus.
My old S1 111s was a car I would genuinely get home from work, and take out for a drive around the surrounding countryside just for fun. Pure and simple.
Yes i take the Maser out the same way, but it is more for the engine/gearchange/sound, the Lotus was for the pure handling and steering feel with the roof off. Totally different!

First world problems there mate with the lovely fleet that you have going on! You could just move to a smaller place! :p

Indeed 1st world problem. The worry is if I get to build a house it would be with more indoor garaging space!

I like the look of the Tuscan and T350 but not sure about the Speed 6 or AJP engines. Certainly not a majority but I have heard so many tales of £10k+ engine rebuilds.

The old school RV8 has a great sounding old school agricultural but slightly endering feel to it.
