Skyhook

McGrath Maserati have flat out refused to switch off the Skyhook function in the car, as described by the installation process included with KW V3 coil over fitment...
To be fair, they dont know what it involves ( SD2 connection and a couple clicks ) and having never done it before, they are just saying "No- too many unknowns. Could be dangerous..who knows? Find a specialist..."...
My issue is I require a Maserati specialist, or at least, Maserati specialist equipment, to effect the deactivation of dynamic damping so that the car can be used with standard coil overs...! I thought that was McGrath but apparently not ! I also thought strut replacement something the workshop did routinely but again, apparently they are squeamish to do this either... I am disappointed but also "stumped" at this juncture if the work cannot be completed by a Maserati specialist...My instruction manual descibes the use of Systema Diagnosti specifically....

Im in East Anglia...will probably end up changing out the struts myself but I will still need to sort the electronics...
Can anyone make any recommendations where I might turn to have this work done...? As the car will probably end up on the back of a trailer, the closer to me, the better...!

Thanks

I would speak to Marios/Russ at Autoshield, I think he will at least provide you with the answers to your questions and indeed if you can/cannot do this. 0161 881 3463

My car had it switched off when I bought the car... Basically it is stuck in soft mode/SPORTS off

AV Engineering can help you because Aldous turned my Skyhook back on

Here is a photo that Aldous sent me when he figured out why the SPORTS button on my dash did nothing at all:

To switch on or off the SD3 has to be twinned to a laptop and the dash ECU is re calibrated - I believe the process is like a firmware reset

I thought McGraths is a specialist? Other options, I have heard that there is some sort of resister that you can plug into the Skyhook connector that fools the suspension ECU into thinking the struts are still present and the system still works but obviously you are blatting around on proper coilovers with no error lights. Think they cost a little more than just turning off the sports suspension though

Magraths are fantastic but I believe their speciality lies more in the Biturbo and before era cars

I thought that was indeed what happened to your car Shoghi...
I have the instruction in front of me. It seems even simpler than that...
It doesnt even take SD3...and McGrath have SD2 I know. I get the feeling they see it as modification and dont fancy the imagined liability...?
The method is indeed to close the Sport mode...
Guess I'll have to risk rejection from Aldous...:as002:

It might be...although they seem to have a number of GTs and QPs being serviced whenever I pull up outside their place...
Suspension set-up is specialised. I understand they dont want to go there...!

The SD3 plugs into the older cars and emulates the SD2

Are you going to install the coilovers first then disable skyhook or the other way round?

Thats a question I have no sensible answer for...!
I am going to sound like McGrath now because I dont know what effect this will have on the car. I mean...Skyhook will , presumably, go into fault code meltdown. Ive had Skyhook faults already, and they didnt "cripple' the car....but presumably, there is a risk that it wont like it much...? It'll think they dampers are all broken, right ? What do we think that does to the brain!?
I didnt want t present the car at Centre Gravity and them not be able to do their thing for want of switching off the software. I dont really see driving it before the set up is done. It might drive fine, or it might be undriveable...
Perhaps I dont need worry myself with a dash load of illumination..
I should quiz a Maserati specialist..If only I knew one..!

They point blank refused to look at my GT despite them having a GT on their website and advertising QP services.

Found that odd.

I'll ask.

What's an Arabian Buzzer? Is if a woman sits in the driver's seat?

I know the answer....!
Unplug the ECU in the boot and see what happens...!

Can't you just disconnect each cable that goes to the top of the suspension strut? As shown below. That way you can just keep the Sport button for quicker gear changing. 59183

My QP5 has the 'Sport Option' according to the build sheet, are we sure that's Skyhook? Cos I though all this Gen. of cars had skyhook as standard? Having said that my Sports button doesn't seen to do anything......

There are two options for you as far as I can tell.

If you unplug the damper the ECU will sense the open circuit and give you a nice light on your dash. You could, undoubtedly, measure the resistance of the coil in the damper and put a suitable resistor across the unplugged terminals and this should stop that.

The other one is turning it off using the SD3.
