Current Car Prices

I've got my TVR Griffith up for sale at the moment after paying top money for a nice example 2 years ago, looked at 7 cars etc. I'm not feeling optimistic, I expect to sell it for less than i bought it for despite spending £7K on mostly unnecessary suspension and engine management upgrades, plus renewing smaller details. There are about 50 for sale and quite a few look over priced. I'm expecting to catch a cold on this one to the tune of at least £10K if by commission sale. I've had my fun with it though and some cars work out well others not.

What frustrates now is that I think the market is definitely cooling but there are plenty of private individuals and dealers who are still asking top dollar. Private individual wise it must hurt to see the value of your "investment" softening, but I can only agree with them and say yes I'm getting the same thing with what I'm selling, I'm going to lose.

The utter joke of the TVR re-launch probably hasn't helped things either.

We’ve found most people don’t want to, but we can arrange inspection visits and tests for any of the cars we consign.
do you guys take the buyers commission immediately after auction end from the buyers registered card details or on collection of car?

The TVR market is massively overpriced IMHO. Some massive variations between prices. I think the prices of TVR's have gradually strengthened over the years and have started to get a bit silly. I love TVR's but they aren't perfect cars by a long stretch. I am looking to move out of my 2nd Chimaera into a 500 of some description or maybe a later T Car but some of the numbers are a little hard to justify. I have a perfectly nice 1999 Chimaera in Amaranth with nice Speed 6 front but I am looking at adding £8-£13k to get into something I would like which doesn;t make total sense to me at the moment.

The Tuscan, T350 & Sagaris are a bit silly IMHO price wise at the mo.

That site is more or less the same as themarket.co.uk who sell some lovely cars too.

Yes, it sometimes feels as though they’ve copied quite a few of our styles and features, but equally they’re logical choices so there will be similarities. Their service was there first though, and there’s space for both of us!

Immediately, as this helps prevent non-completion risk. It would obviously be refunded if the sale couldn’t complete due to the seller though.

Always a fan of the E3 it was a real sleeper in the day but I see prices have firmed up quite a bit
Remeber well when my father got one after many years of Jaguars and I couldn't believe it saying we have gone from a 4.2 to a 3.0 that's crazy.
Then I realized that the BMW was no 3.0 Granada ;)
As a 17 year old driving the BMW as I could as my father was in the trade it was a super quick car in the 70'S with a slick manual box.

Only wanted a respray to make exceptional as interior and mechanicals mint.
Next to the EK Civic best track car for smiles :)

I am so confused about the car market now... some POS selling at Silverstone for top dollars and my neighbor’s is struggling to sell his 612 for £50k w perfect history and huge bills to sort big things over the past 4 years he’s owned it.

That 2011 30k miles w FMSH MC shift seems like crazy value for age and mileage - and 3 year warranty outstanding

And it’s been there for weeks...

I don’t get it. I am seriously considering adding another car to the stable. And if Brexit is a **** show, there’s only one way for the prices to head to post Oct 31st.

Oh that's nice Mark, although my son would say it's an old man's car. I've been watching Bentleys of late and on the face of it they look to be good value for money, but the service/repair costs can apparently make Maseratis look cheap!

PH
the problem is they often have deferred maintenance; this plus relatively high labour rates (even at indies) and expensive parts create a realistically small market for them. They are easy to buy and a pig to sell.

perhaps I'm an old man in heart, as I bought my first Bentley (Turbo R) at 32 years old. I also spent £10k on random/deferred repairs in the first year. SZ Bentleys are labours of love and I will hopefully have another soon, as lovely as the four door cars are it must be a Continental R derivative this time

I think you are right to add another car to the stable for sure. Just a case of picking the right car.

I don't see that GT S MC as cheap though. What were they new £90k? It is 8 years old so would expect it to be at least that price more like £25k now. My late 2010 XJL SuperSport was £106k new and I paid nearly half that MC price nearly a year ago. The XJL SS is more practical, more comfortable, sounds nearly as good and just as fast. Also rarer and likely to depreciate less if at all now. Of course I would love a GT S MC 4.7 but not at £30k at the moment thanks.

Head says you’re right about the Jag, but my heart still feels like the MC is a more special car (at least to me) and it looks much better and has a better racing pedigree imho.
I still think a 2011 MC well sorted w 3 years of outstanding warranty is not bad value- especially if the seller is willing to negotiate a bit.

Jaguar has quite a heritage in Motor Racing with Le Mans and formula 1 for starters.
Enzo Ferrari said the E Type was the most beautiful car in his opinion.
Look at special cars they built like the XJ13 and the XJ220.
Just my thoughts.

I do agree on the MC. Just feel they can still drop south and depreciate further and are not sometimes too cheap to run.

Drive an XJ SuperSport of XJR....you might be surprised. Mine has sports rear boxes so has a nasty Jag side to it with some bite. It is probably the quickest car I have as is just so usable. You stab your foot down and it just takes off and doesn't stop. At Llandow last time I was with Hoyin in his Noble and the white XJR was pulling away from us on the straights and barely any slower round the bends.

It feels just as special to sit in and drive as you don't see many around. It has tons of room in the back of the LWB.

I don’t disagree with you Phil, Jaguar does have a pedigree, I just think Maserati is more rooted in the history of motor sport from inception and has this special aura that Jag has lost over the past 20years producing average at best saloon car for the masses.
Don’t get me wrong they still produced cars I would love to own (pre-70s mainly).
Also - although I respect Enzo tremendously, I politely disagree w his statement... I would put a lot of cars ahead of the etype design; the 300SL Gullwing for starter :)

As Rockits mentioned I should try a few modern ones and let myself be influenced by how good their actual owners claim they are.
