Oh I do love the thoughtful, educated, rational, unemotional and soundly economically and socially argued posts of MarkMas on this thread. Shame the responses tend to be the same old unproven and unreliable rhetoric and opinion from the remain side of the house usually stated as unarguable facts

I really appreciate that, and I do try to be logical.

BUT you should guard against a tendency to feel that arguments you agree with are self-evidently high-quality arguments! I stopped reading the Economist a while ago when I found myself thinking that their content was both brilliant and right-thinking. It seemed too comfortable. I started reading the Guardian to get a bit of counterpoint - raised my blood pressure, but I like to think it was good for my brain.

I am just impressed that you are correct- all of the time! It must really annoy remoaners.

After fighting the Brexit equivalent of the Alamo for months, virtually single handed, it’s nice to have the 7th cavalry arrive. I’ve been ducking all the arrows from Midlifecrisis, Masercoupe, JonW, Geoff, Zep and many others so it’s great that you ride in and add some actual facts to the points I raise (which, modestly, are very good ones from time to time, bordering on brilliant in fact).

Ps. I tried to read the Economist but was disappointed with the lack of pictures and funnily enough “American Nations: A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America“ was next on my must read list.

It's not good I recognise that.

People make mistakes, either they realise their stupidity or they don't, either way they are victims, help them or abandon them? Educate or castigate?

What?? It was A mistake to have 3-4 kids. Do me a favour, they all know what happens when you open your legs wide with no protection.
Not an ounce of sympathy from me I'm afraid.
Listen, brief story, I know a single mum who deliberately had more kids to get a bigger council house!!

And we support and supply Saudi Arabia with weapons, no one is innocent.

"Does it mean I agree with Hamas and what it does? No. Does it mean I agree with Hezbollah and what they do? No. What it means is that I think to bring about a peace process, you have to talk to people with whom you may profoundly disagree ... There is not going to be a peace process unless there is talks involving Israel, Hezbollah and Hamas and I think everyone knows that"

He cosied up to those despots but didn't want to go to a dinner with the biggest leader of the free world?
Oh, hang on, later it transpired he sough a meeting with Trump was was denied. WHAT A LOSER.

Gotta laugh at politicians attempts for redemption following prior "Class a" drug indiscretions

Bo Johnson- Cocaine, Cannabis. Plan-regain credibility and seek forgiveness.

Cocaine-“ tried it at university and I remember it vividly”. My hanky is out, but then....
Plan Fail - “ it. achieved no pharmacological, psychotropic or any other effect on me whatsoever." Of course it didn’t, not. But then he goes for the double fail “"I sneezed and so it did not go up my nose. In fact, I may have been doing icing sugar,"
Not only the discovery of a new allergy, but money very poorly spent. Lets hope he’s more frugal with that £39 Billion.......

On Cannabis- "There was a period before university when I had quite a few (cannabis joints). It was jolly nice”. Tears are welling.
Plan fail - but when he says “ before University”..... does he mean Secondary or even Primary school? And the double fail is “apparantly it is very different these days. Much stronger”. So the stuff he used a few times was sh1t then and that makes it fine.

Rory Stewarts heartfell confession re Opium smoking was endearing.
Plan Fail - He then claimed it had "no effect on him as he was walking 25-30 miles a day". What? Where is that scientific study then.....what is the "maximum mileage per smoke" you can walk each day, so as to enjoy the full sensation?
I'm sure users would love to know.

The best.
Clinton- confesses to Marijuana use at Oxford university. Aww.
Plan fail- but “I didn’t inhale”. Right then.
Unlike Monica.

I just don't see the point of this sort of propaganda. Is it supposed to make someone on the other side of an argument change their mind? That seems very unlikely. I think its only purpose is to make someone already on one side of an argument feel themselves to be clever and/or virtuous. Or maybe it is just getting something off their chest, without caring whether it actually changes anything.

- sorry if that seems a bit rude, TimR, I'm not trying to gratuitously insult you (although it might sound that way), more commenting on how political debate seems to be dominated by sloganeering, and nobody is changing their minds.

I Think ALL of these things have already been experienced by Uk Citizens whilst we're in the Eu haven't they?

Why would we want to have such close economic ties with a failing Europe- one that requires constant central bank intervention to keep it from collapse. They're about to do it again...

The balance sheet of the European Central Bank has been inflated to be 40% of the GDP of the Eurozone!! Totally Knackered, Ponzi scheme.

Dunno why they're bothered about our £39 billion...they seem quite happy just printing as much as they want out of thin air most of the time to "pretend they've solved" things :lol2:, so i'm sure they can do it again....to replace ours.

Moronic and coarse, but here it is:

Ironic that John Oliver is using a 'Churchillian' motif for this, since Churchill was strongly in favour of an EU, but also strongly opposed to the UK being a part of it.

Well, I for one think that’s appalling. It’s not funny at all.
If thats how we feel about ourselves i’m genuinely disgusted at the lack of self respect.
