Ferrari - is it just me?

I never worry about mileage I buy cars to drive but that said with having 3 classics neither the SZ or Giulietta have done more than 1500 each in the last 4 years which is why the Giulietta has 43k and the SZ 52k on the clocks. Even my everyday road car only does 8k per year but that is because I only commute to the airport and back once a week all of 120 return

The only Lambo I would buy would be an Espada or maybe a very early LP400 Contach - all the others are just too shouty for my tastes

Many new Ferraris id love to own like the F12 and FF but if my numbers come in ill find myself going straight to a Lambo dealer and ordering a Hurrican
Why do you say that dem? I am tempted by the huracan- but not sure I could pay 150k+ for an R8

Huracan, pure Italian theatre with German reliability... what's not to like?
But all things considered. Would you go for one over a 458 /488 all things considered. I think it would be a hard case to make.

612 Scaglietti is the only one I’ve driven that I’ve had lustful yearnings for afterwards. But then that’s really a big Maserati 4200 with extra cylinders in terms of driving it, which explains why I liked it.
The F355 was lovely, even with the F1 box, but I didn’t yearn for it - I’ve never been a supercar kinda guy. When I was younger Eggenberger Sierra RS500s and Martini Deltas adorned my walls, supercars just seemed... daft. The Mondials I’ve driven (oddly, both LHD, both silver-grey - which looks much better than red - one of which used to belong to Silvio Berlusconi) have great engines but so-so steering.

288 GTO, however...

I am a Ferrari front engine fan, from the 250 through to the 365 GTB, then when they brough back the bug coupe 550, 575 etc. Had a go in an F12 and it was everything a car should be. The odd mid engined version sneaks in occasionally the lovely balanced Dino and the brutish 365 BB from the 70s and then the awesome 288 GTO and that's about it but even then there are other much more affordable cars I would have first.

I must say I fancy a Lambo. They are just nuts. If the depreciation is so steep surely they should become affordable?
Or maybe they just cost so much more to buy in the first place.

The Lambo depreciation is not that much worse than Ferrari really. It's all about choosing the right model, colour etc. If you look at Aventadors, for example, they have faired far better than the "entry" level Huracan. You can't get a good Gallardo, even a crappy e-gear, for less than £70k which shows you where the bottom lies. That's not much different to the F430 which was the comparable model from Ferrari.

Take a look at the value of the more desirable lambos, like the Murielago, and you see a similar trend to the great stuff from Maranello. My friend has one of 8 manual LP640 Murcielagos in RHD ever made and it's just awesome. My favourite of the cars that people I know own and I hope one day will be subject to a massive offer from me when those numbers come in! It's worth at least £250k these days.

Trouble is that to get into the slow depreciating stuff, you need to spend more so the man maths calculator has to have that setting, and not many do....

Rubbish... If you had two identical cars side by side, one had 50k on the clock and the other had 20k. which one would you choose?

Talking of garage queens.. I'm still trying to keep my old 3200GT miles as low as possible, It wants for nothing and gets thrashed every time it goes out!

I was getting seriously anxious last week when the tripometer went over to 26K!:(

Why? That's your perception and knowing what you know about cars and engines i'm really surprised by that. Where has this fascination come from? Cars are meant to be driven and Maseratis in particular seem to get better with more use and miles. There are plenty of 3200's out there with over 120k miles on still going strong.

Guess what was up at the storage shed at the weekend.. a 488 GTB, I had to get the cover off!

The car under the red cover is a Alfa 1750 GTV, that Fezzer is just massive!

Was talking to owner, a nice chap, very down to earth also has a 6 litre AMG Merc!

He didn't know how to operate the front lifting system and caused 5k worth of damage to the carbon undertray aero system  ..over the local speed bumps!

The first oil and filter change was only 2 thousand quid plus vat at Gray Paul

Who said Masers were expensive to run!

It has a very posh magnetic battery charger plug system under the rear number plate plinth, with instructions to the effect it must be connected at all times when the cars not in use!
