Sprayed the cleaned buttons of my 500sl with clear varnish MATTE.
Best result I’ve seen till now, like brand new.

Ok. I managed to dismount all plastics, just missing wheel cowl and the door lock switches (image attached). Wheel cowl I have asked to Vampyrebat about screw type in the chat he created. Does anyone know how to remove the door switches? If not I will try to repair on site.

For the 4200 cc panel buttons I was thinking of creating decals of all icons used on various buttons. Print them and use them as covers when repainting them. Did anyone tried this already? Am I correct that the buttons are white when all paint is removed?

After a few weeks of searching and finding a solution for sticky buttons with decals without result. I have decided to order a laser etcher. A cheap Chinese 2 watts one for arround 500. Various forums say you can remove paint from plastic parts. I have experience with graphics design and 3d printing, but not with laser etching :). So it will be a nice one.
I did remove all vents from my car and removed all sticky material. Resprayed the sides in Chrome and the rest in matte black. Looks as new. The sticky buttons with icons are really annoying me. The first thing people say when they enter my car: "nice car, but what happened with all those ugly buttons??"

Did you have any luck with the laser etcher? I'm looking to do something with my sticky buttons next weekend but honestly I don't know what to do as they're mostly partly white already so too far gone.

I am still waiting for my k40 laser etcher. In the meantime I am watching all kinds of videos about this cheap chinese 40w laser etcher. Theoretically it must be possible to do it. The challenge will be to find the right paint to edge off and etcher settings to just print off the right amount. I will let you know once I get some results (good or bad)

Just done my heater controls, and sport and start buttons, used isopropyl alcohol, toothbrush and finger nail, then gave them a cote of Matt lacquer for protection, looks like I am going to have to do every part in the car, as everything that has that finish is sticky

My buttons are okay, but the centre consul tray with the door mirror switch has suddenly gone all goey... so looks like i'll be stripping this sooner rather than later. The CD slot cover isn't far behind either.
