How bad are Diesel Massers?

One thing to be wary of is a lot of the Ghiblis arent very highly specced. Heated seats, xenon lights, carbon interiors arent that common

They almost feel like a kitcar clone in reverse, real body/chassis fake engine.....

What on earth is a fake engine?!?! You mean on a model car where the bonnet lifts and the engine is a piece of moulded plastic that doesn't actually power the car??
Last time I checked under the 'hood' the thing there was powering the car, and at least it's not one of the prehistoric V8 or laughably out of date V6 petrol units that are woefully out if date and in a couple of years obsolete.
I do wonder what will happen when there is no engine, but just an electric motor hidden within the axle to those motorists who like a 'real' engine.

I meant the opposite of the old Countach replicas that were popular in the 80's and the other Lambo replicas since, proper space frame chassis, 2ltr Renault V6. And lately the Diablo replicas with BMW V12's....

Actually my analogy doesn't really work, but I have got to go to Scotland later. That's my excuse....

All I would add, the car sector is going through some big changes. The utterly biased garbage against currently Diesels in the media makes not surprisingly no mention of how much cleaner a modern Diesel engine now is, and how political leaders thinking there’s some votes to be had jump on the bandwagon. Little is said about how CO2 emissions are beginning to rise again due to increasing petrol cars.
However when the media have got rid of Diesel and nearly are indigenous motor sector, they will target petrol cars, and eventually even electric. It’s all about getting the public to watch or read the news, and in terms of protecting the environment they probably have little or no interest!!
Honestly utterly ridiculous!!!

I have driven a Ghibli diesel as loaner while my GT was in for repairs. I have to say, it's a great cruiser. Power delivery is very smooth and has enough power for its size and weight. And when giving it the beans there is no problem driving and handling.

The only downside, a couple of months later I got a Giulia for the weekend. That car is just in a different league compared to a Ghibli. It drives fantastic and looks better then a Ghibli and its still an italian. So if you can manage to live with a lot less car (ie, no head/legroom for adults in the back) then I would advice to test drive a Giulia.
I considered trading in the GT for a Giulia, but well, I just wait a couple of years and buy a Giulia for the misses when there are little ones running around.

I popped into both Audi and maserati today and was rather surprised!

Audi were thin on the ground with A6's for about 22k, one I looked at, over budget, well it required me to pull levers and shove the seat about?!
Over the road at maserati, I was told that they could supply a Ghibli for my budget! And possibly a QP! Very surprised! The QP is what I really want! So fingers crossed!

Blimey! I heard a rumour today that I am going to be able to opt out of my company car scheme. So I am taking note!

I opted out... Got a cls 350cdi now... Bit nicer than the 318d company car and cheaper somehow... I am thinking to chop it in for a Ghibli or qp diesel next year

The one thing that has always amazed me is that paddles were an option as well and most you see at this price point do not have them....a That's very mean of Maserati not to have them as standard. Think I would have to have them if I was getting one.

Not sure C. I know ypu see some last model QP's without them so would imagine the latest twin turbo ones it was an option. Shocking that....

You can get them retrofitted. I did. It depends on certain other options (iirc something to do with electric seats?). It cost me around 1100 parts and labour

That is nice! You think £3k wiggle room is relatively realistic on a £25k car?

The pretty lady at Lancasters reckoned the service cost for a diesel QP/Ghibli was only £500 So it is bang in line with anything German...

She also emailed last night saying that they may have a Ghibli for around £22k

You can get nicely specced ghiblis on autotrader for as low as 18k with 20-21 inch wheels etc and reasonable mileage. Ludicrous. Not far off Ford Focus costs. Some of them look lovely.

I guess service costs vary from garage to garage. From my experience (and I'm now back to service 2 on the schedule!), the cheapest was around 600 and most expensive around 900. On average Id say about 700 throughout the service cycle.
