Surely Auto mode will be fine for wedding guests? Or is part of the package to scare the bejeeezers out of them :)

means pressing the Sport mode button (to put into Sport mode), then moving the shifter into manual mode (from "D") and using the paddles to switch gears?

Is this right?

Yep - that's how you are supposed to do it !.

However, you can use the paddles at any time in Auto mode (D) too.. you'll notice the gears come up on the digital display when you do.. It will stay in "Paddle" mode for 30 secs or so after a change... Which is mighty useful if you just want to make some quick gear adjustments through some tricky bends, before going casual again..

The key thing with this box (that it didn't do before) is that once you've put it in Manual it stays there... ie:- You can red-line it and stay there... it won't change up automatically at the redline (as the old auto box did in manual mode)..

You don't (of course) need the sport button pressed to be in manual mode - and often I didn't as I quite like the softer suspension and don't always need all the noise..

Spot on. I saw that manual mode but thought it was for using the stick lever to change gears up and down (which I'm sure you can use).

Which although is entirely inappropriate its great in the summer with the windows open driving through the centre of town and hearing the exhaust sound bounce off the office buildings.. It's also helpful reminding pedestrians about to step off the kerb with their ear buds in that you're there..

Dicky mentioned this. I assume it opens the valves fully.

I've never noticed the 'clonk' you mention when it drops into 1st. Mine is always smooth. The gearbox will automatically select 1st at stand still even if you are in manual.

The car is noticeably louder in manual than auto when the sport button is pressed as well which is hilarious (especially with an x pipe or similar).

I did not know that the Sport mode is louder when in manual than it is when in auto. I must try this on my car to see if it's the same for me.

MC AUTO SHIFT AUTOMATIC GEARBOX With the ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox and hydraulic torque converter, the GranTurismo Sport delivers a relaxed driving experience - but without compromising performance. The transmission, developed from that of the Quattroporte Sport GT S, runs the MC Auto Shift software and allows the driver to select between five modes: Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport and ICE.
