Not sure if you guys have seen this, here is Maserati’s excuse for producing squeaky brakes.

I have this issue, although not very severe, on my Stradale.

Baffle with science and ignore that it smells like bullsh!t - is an alternative way of looking at it

for the avoidance of doubt, you use copper grease only when you're fitting new pads and/or removing existing pads completely and then apply, do not try to smear it on fitted pads within callipers, bit obvious I know but just in case someone gets the wrong idea

I completely agree, I have a tin of it in the garage and use it on all of the steel braked cars I work on. But near a £3k carbon disc? I’ll probably get used to the occasional squeal, it’s a potentially ruinous c0ck up opportunity.

that's a fair point, think I would probably be rather cautious as well if my discs were 3k

Be careful here. The stradales brakes always make a little noise, even warm. It's ok, IMHO. I like it, in fact, reminds me I'm driving something with race brakes.

On the other hand grumbles and scratching sounds from the back are to worry about, as the rear ebrake is not very well implemented. See an old thread of mine.

Not sure if I trust myself to do this, never done it before and would not even know where to start. I guess you need to take the pad off and apply grease? Just not technical enough to do this.

It's normal and good practice, both by garages/workshops and if you do your own, you only smear a very small amount, impossible to contaminate anything unless you're completely careless, been doing it on all my motors for donkeys years and never had a squeal

best leave it to a professional mechanic if you're not technically minded and/or hands on with your car, suppose really depends how bad the squeal is and how much it bothers you, it's dead easy for a garage/mechanic to take care of copper greasing the pads once off

Where are my wellies (BS allert)!!!

Always have done my own brakes, always have applied copperslip to the correct points, never have had squeaky brakes. The Maserati blurb linked above is just to support the service sales people convincing you to change parts early and pony up for the pleasure!

I used to work at Maserati.

I cannot tell you how many times I had brake squeal jobs booked in.

They still have issues on ghibli, levantes and qp’s too. They’ve now changed pad compound

Interesting. Mine isn’t to the point of of massive irritation, but it’s good to know that “they all do that” hasn’t worked!

Aston acknowledges the likelihood of brake-squeak in the handbook. See the end of the first column:
