Mike, did you find that the four-person day denied you much tuition-time? What I mean is, did you come away thinking that the two-person day would have been better because then you would have had more individual tuition and less sitting around while someone else was tutored? I'm all for saving a couple of hundred quid, but only if it doesn't make the investment less worthwhile.

There is launch mode as well if you hold both paddles or at least it does something funky on a Strad.

On the actual 599, apparently, if you pull and hold the left paddle it will do multiple bloody fast downshifts. If you do that on the MC, even running 599 software (or is it firmware?) it produces a message saying "transmission failure, go to dealer". It's wrong, mind - I think what it actually means is "don't do that again, it's pointless."

This works on the Strad. The downshifts I mean, not the gearbox message.

Not much sitting around if the instructor wasn't sat in the car with you, you are practising your skills alone.
Blyton Park was by far the best, a proper track rather than an airfield.
With four cars they split you up to different sections of the track for practice. In the late afternoon you then have the whole track open to you as an open pit lane, but with just the four of you!

Nice! You'd assume that the Strad 'box would be a step on from the older 599. Unless those chaps at Fezza jealously guarded their slickest creations rather than sharing nicely with Maserati.

A track would be better... but North Wald is closer! OK, I'll start a new thread and see if we can coordinate a date and whether we can rustle up two or four people.

edit: have started new thread

Video of when at North Weald, I was in my Elise.
Was given free time, to be silly!
Mate in his GT3 couldn't unstick it!!

Now at Blyton Park. Friend now changed his GT3 for a 997 Turbo, as he discovered the GT3 to be too unpredictable on the limit!

Its because plates can "fall" off...but an illegible plate is assumed to be hiding miscreant intent ! A plate that's covered in mud is technically quite a ball ache if the police decide to take you to task...!
It's also necessary to maintain spacing too I understand...so margins can be trimmed but there are limits here too Im afarid. Sadly, you'll meet the jobsworth bobby with nothing better to do eventually....

The fine for having a plate of non standard dimensions is more than for having no plate at all for some obscure reason. Looks far better with no plate at all IMHO.

I know you know I was aiming it at Adam.

I know it as well. It was me that said it. Zep then confirmed that the issue doesn't arise on the Strad. Do try to keep up, Phil. :)

Anyway, apparently in the Vantage it does fast downshifts if you're ******* the brakes, but I obviously don't use the brakes much because I haven't experienced that yet.

edit: ****** is hard 0n

I could be wrong, but I thought the law was more about the size and font of the letters/numbers, rather than the size of the plate itself. So if you have a private plate with few characters, you can trim off the wasted plastic at each end of the plate. Possibly. It’s what I’ve done, and never had a problem (with my cars being, generally, in Dorset and Chelsea).

That is correct Ewan, think it is 75mm height of letters, of a specific font and spacing and an 11mm border all around them, so my plate for instance F10 JJP has been specifically made to meet these criteria, but is in fact shorter than a standard plate. WHEN I get my car back on the road it will be having a Gransport front splitter fitted and will take the opportunity then to 'De-plate' the front.

Lovely car well done, don't get me started on small plates both my Giulietta and Fulvia have plates fitted in the manufacturers original fitting but by consequence are smaller. To date only one MOT inspector asked for the Giulietta one to be changed for the test.

And you know about comfort drive mode too? It remembers sport mode from last being used as long as you use a paddle to change before about 30 seconds of driving.

Road trip to oxford , midlands and back today and handed my wife the manual to read up:D. She spoted the above, cheers for the heads up. I’ll give launch a go on her next outing.
