Compared to four figures of great British pounds from one of them main dealers, correct?
Yes £3000 for a replacement NIT as they don’t do individual components and there are none anyway. People baulk at my prices! Yeah go figure!

I’ve worked out that every single GT/S hard drive will fail within 10 years.... starting with freezing, looping or the odd reboot... it is amazing how many ignore or live with it.

I also will soon offer a USB and Aux input upgrade.

I'm interested as you know Phil. Keen to hear how you get on.

As a reminder replacement hard drives are £250 for forum members only.
I've bookmarked your website as I intend to keep the GT for quite some time. It's almost 6 years old now, so I'm sure the hard drive will fail eventually. Can you do repairs on hard drives that are sent from the US?

I think the answer to this is it is WIP. I have sent a drive to a guy in the US with the European maps on it so once I get confirmation that is all good then all you would need is a copy of the US maps CD and then upload those to the unit too (in theory). But to be fair most people don't use the archaic sat nav functionality on the GT/GC cars as it is woeful. Most are just happy to get their units working again.

Thanks...and you're right about the woeful sat nav functionality...or lack thereof...on the GT. We've had the car over a year and we've never use the sat nav on it.

I have just read this entire thread after that little nudge and while the techy stuff is way beyond me i am mightily impressed the process of problem solving, well done guys!

But can i just clarify something in laymans (my) terms?

1. Are you saying all these units will inevitably fail because, well, everything fails eventually. But by swapping this unit you end up with a more robust, longer lived and faster system with the added bonus of up to date maps and even postcode satnav and this would work even on an old dinosaur like my 2008 4.2???

2. Is this something any competent auto electrician could do or are we more in the realm of computer engineer? Is it just a case of unplug the old drive and plug in the new, because the idea of snipping pins off leads freaks me out a bit!

3. If i am installing carplay is it a good idea to preemptively swap this drive while the system is out of the car?

4. What is the chances of f***ing everything up?

Thanks in advance:)

3. The unit pulls out with release pins so it makes no difference.

I am sure Phil will be along in a bit but my understanding is:
  1. Release the drive unit from below the screen.
  2. Disconnect the multi plugs
  3. Open the unit and replace the drive
  4. Reinstall.

Quite simple really.

hi mate,
are they still for sale? my 2009 Quatroporte 4.7s is having crazy problems. it all started when i wanted to do a fresh install and during the backup i shut down the car.
Since then the screen is only on 1 thing ( i can put the screen in the mode the 1st 3 seconds the system jumpes on) and does nothing anymore.

so if you still hae harddrives for sale this would be great for me i guess

Good afternoon, I'm from Russia and I have a Maserati GT 2008. I faced the same problem of radio dependency on the Maserati logo. The hard drive has died, and there is no way to make an image of the files with it. I have a new hard drive. Does anyone here have an image of the hard drive and could share it so I can find it for myself? I already have a disk, it remains on its image, if I understand everything correctly.
