Agreed about T&Cs, but a politely worded letter explaining the situation, which can be easily proved, "should" make a difference. Perhaps a phone call first followed by letter and if still no joy write a very firm email to their CEO:

Here is the initial, seems they tried to renew the policy, it wasn’t on direct debit, but appears they tried to renew, it wouldn’t have worked as the wife paid it, I’m guessing they then covered her for 2 weeks then cancelled it, now they want their 2 weeks money..it look like they sent a renewal quote and did the, we will automatically renew unless we hear from you using the previous card details, which was obviously in wife name therefore declined...

yup, that be the dreaded fooking "auto renew" and how I hate that, I make a point of telling every insurance company not to put me on auto renew. I can see it's very useful in todays busy world but does mean the onus is on the insured to tell them not to renew especially if an over inflated renewal figure comes through. This exact thing did happen to me once not realising i was on auto renew and after bitching, moaning and throwing my toys out of the pram with a couple of phone calls to team leaders I eventually got an apology and a refund, my argument was "I did not receive the required renewal notice", suggest you try that angle and be firm with them as they will try and hoodwink you into coughing up

All these con traps with insurance companies and energy companies must catch a lot of oap's out, con tricks that should be outlawed this day and age.

the renewal on my van came up 24th nov, I'd been hit on a roundabout last year, 100% not my fault , all monies recovered , OK that'll increase your premium by £68 , how can a non fault accident increase my premium , Ok let me see if i can apply a discount, yes I can apply a discount of £68 , bought a new(er) van, ducato , that'll be £138 extra, **** me

I pay that then the fiat develops a fault ( italian, electrics, what else) so I have to re insure the transit , how much to have them both on cover for a week , £170, FOR A WEEK!
, Ok what about if I put the transit back on cover, that'll be a refund of £58 , hang on £138 - £58 = £80 for a week, it's only £900 for a year !

let me see if I can apply a discount , yes £30 so £88 refund so I took that but when they want to add the £138 back on to change it back to the ducato I'm going to cancel it as I'll still be in the 14 day cooling off period and see if I can do better elsewhere.

When I've had 2 insured previously it's been £40 as I can only drive one and it's only me that's insured.

I ALWAYS instruct any insurer to remove any "auto renew" clause and ensure I mention it in the phone call and remind the call handler my instruction is recorded in the call transcript in the event of dispute or failure to act on my instruction. I do as those fools do with me and after they have read out a written script of conditions, I state, "and now I'm going to read out my explicit instruction which is being recorded on this call and available in the transcript in the event of a dispute"

Some guys dont even mention the "auto renewal" clause. One has to play these guys and companies at their own game......

Yeah tell me about it.

Our car got hit while it was parked and the person refused to just give me some money as it was a company car and decided to claim via their insurance.

And of course our insurance went up even though it was non fault.

I'm 33, Just insured the 2010 GTS i'm picking up tomorrow, just under £500, thought that was pretty good, NR postcode 11 NCB, also still have the 4200 insured that cost me a tad over £400 with same mileage, Both with Admiral multi car, I will be canceling the 4200 once its sold though so hope they don't put the GTS up.

That seems pretty good considering your age.

You didn't need to get your insurance involved at all in such cases.
Truck reversed into my company car when parked, truck insurance company just asked for repair quote, and authorised repair with repair company. Car insurance company not involved at all not even notified.

Yup my car insurance company weren’t involved.

However they all share info so you do need to declare it?

But I see what you are saying. It is not your insurance claim?

I think all insurance companies have points in their T's & C's that state you need to inform them even if you don't claim.

I don't agree with this as if there is a little bump dealt with privately especially when not your fault and the 3rd party pays cash I don't see the issue. They just want any excuse to obtain more data and any excuse to increase your premium.

All, try Direct Line multi-car. I have a Lotus Evora and now a GTS MC-Shift - £400 and £450 respectively. 9yrs NCD (put on the Maz), both limited to 3K.
I thought that was rather good.

Just had my first full year Maserati quote (I changed over half way through a multicar policy last year, when purchased)..

£483. 11 years NCB, 30 years old, it was cheaper to say its on the drive then in the garage? I also have my fiance in her twenties with zero no claims which I know doesnt help, this was part of a mulitcar policy with a BMW 330d which was £239, total £722.

I employ you all to call come renewal time.. before I called my renewal was £1,008..
