Sub £60k Ferrari?

After reading a few threads on Californias/488s, I was having a look on Autotrader and saw a few sub £60k Ferraris. Quite a surprise really considering the care that some were built too. Obviously there's the 'runt of the family' Mondial but which would you go for? There's a few to choose from, 348, 360, 455/455M,612 Scaglietti or would you just wait till the California drops into the 65k zone and haggle the dealer to 60k in the post-Brexit apocalypse?

My vote a well sorted low-ish mileage 360, then 612 scag - all depends the car you’re after

I’d go 360 Modena, a 2002 onward F1, don’t think you’d get a good manual at £60k but they’re awesome.

Certainly enjoyed the 98 456 I had but for me no more V12'S as the fuel consumption was high.
The 04 360 Modena F1 was Great Fun and for me to have bought both when they were under 40K was a dream now passed.

If I was to leave the QP V GTS it would be for the 612 - the FF/Lusso I have done and it still is an acquired taste visually....one that I never really acquired during my ownership...

355 would be my choice, although I have always liked the 360 and believe they are miles apart in driving experience but the inly way I could afford one is to trade the SZ and that will never happen

Of that list, the 348 all day long, or perhaps stretch to a (LHD) 355.
At the time it was all about the 355 for me, but the 348 has been a grower. I think the moment my mind was changed was when reading a review that called the 348 the Elise of Ferrari's, and described the situation of Di Montezemolo having just taken over and needing the 355 to be an unprecedented success, leading to the negative press surrounding the 348.

It has the classic looks, and much better proportions than the newer cars. to my eye, both the 348 and 355 look better than pretty much anything they've made since too, perhaps it's just that poster car thing, I had a collection of die cast Ferrari as a kid, and these 2 featured quite heavily.

The 360 never quite looked right to me, and a V12 GT Ferrari doesn't appeal as much as a sports car one for me.

Agree with you on this..............I think the last 'Proper' looking Ferrari's were the 348 & 355. I even warmed to the unconventional 348 slatted back lights as opposed to the classic twin circular ones!.........At least they weren't a horrible hockey stick shape!!

Or buy half an FF?

Which half?

I like the 348 and 355 too however they're a little bit too flashy for me. That will sound ridiculous to some but for me, I like the engineering and the understated, hence the 612. (And hence the FF, not a 458/488)

Ive always really liked a 348 but am I right in thinking they are not a particularly great car in build and performance?

Clarkson tore the 348 to pieces, and although it looks good that always put me off.. Dont know if that was fair on the 348 though.

Yeh, I'd be having a 612. Lovely things and like the FF, doesn't photo well and is much nicer in the flesh.

This...Lovely car and so much more elegant and understated than the current crop...All the better for it...

Davide Cironi described the 348 as a dangerous car to drive especially on public highways, too much over/under steer. I don't think the build quality of any Ferrari's of that era were brilliant!
