Mate of mine needs a new starter motor for his 1991 Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 1 , apart from the usual suspects, would anyone know where he can get a new one off the shelf

Try Tanc Barratt or Walkers. Starter can be changed from the top, you need to unbolt the expansion tank and move it out of the way, its a very fiddly job but doable with patience.

On the Evo1 the expansion tank is on the other side and it seems impossible to remove starter from the top without taking off the inlet manifold and various pipework, strut brace simple enough? The Italians certainly know how to shoe horn an engine in with no thought about future access:rolleyes:

Had already been in contact with tanc about a recon Magneti Marelli unit but I did here somewhere that a Bosch unit was available which was a tad smaller a drew less current:think:

Think I recall from Evocorner forum that someone had done it through the wheel arch/underneath - utter ******* to do though! Looking at that photo makes me shudder at the memories of working on mine...

Don't know how I got my arm twisted in agreeing to fit the new one for him, but not looking forward to it and pretty sure there's going to be a lot of choice expletives going on
