It really isn’t a diesel!

That is impressive, modern petrol engines, on a good run, are quiet frugal compared to 10 years ago or so.
I did a round trip down to Birmingham on Friday in my M140i approximately 230 miles, and returned 42 mpg.
Not bad for 6 pots, 3 litres, turbo and 340 BHP plus mine isn't the 8 speed auto with a high top gear.
Admittedly compared to a diesel on more urban driving they can't compare but I really can't see me going back to a diesel daily drive.
Petrol is cheaper than diesel too, and non of the pee injection stuff and particulate filters to worry about...at the moment anyway.

That really is good. Its probably only 10 behind mine on a long run.. food for thought...!

o_O That is impressive.

Don't think I've seen better than half of that in my 4200. Heck, even my 1.4 Panda barely reaches 36mpg

On my recent holiday to Canananananada (It's a big country, deserves more syllables) , we hired an Volvo S90 T6 AWD (had wanted something 'more american') I got around 400 miles from a full tank around 16 UK gallons. It had three modes, Eco useful for sitting behind caravans on twisty can you/can't you overtake roads. Comfort for general cruising, and 'turbo nutter b@$t@rd' for getting past caravans on twisty roads.
I later found out that the engine is only a 2 litre inline 4 but supercharged with a huge turbo!

Just a typical italian glitch. The Porsche tells me i do between 11 & 17mpg average when it clearly doesn’t. I have seen 19mpg driving like a granny but sadly the old fashioned fill up & calculate showed how optimistic that was. My best average was 5.7 on a 25mile trip in clio v6, equally it can manage high 40’s if you really try hard, which i only did once.

Got 400 miles from a tank on a run back through France last year. If you drive them gently on motorway cruise, its amazing what they return.

Dunno what that MPG works out at but its £100 to fill her up.

Ah, only 21mpg so not as impressive as first thought.

And what did you get with the speed governor in the car in Spain?

Remarkably similar though this excludes the majority of the twisty parts due to a battery reset in Andorra when the car wouldn't start. Helen was the one who hit 3 figures on the peage on the way back!

I got from Inverness to Chester (440 miles) on a tank of juice when I picked up my first 3200 in 2003. I thought it was going to be frugal. I then realised 270 is good going.

When I filled up I’d got the MPG down a bit. The calculated value came in just over 1 MPG worse than the indicated so I reckon I got 35 in real terms on the run.

It was mostly on cruise control to save my leg with the odd squeeze of the pedal to get into a gap to avoid having to brake.

Interesting the indicated live MPG is a little better at 70 than 40.

When I bought my QP from you, it returned 26 mpg on the run back to London. I wasn't trying an economy run, I was playing a bit with my new toy, like flooring it from the M6 toll booths etc. I remember being pleased with 26.

I've never been able to equal that. It's showing 22.3 mpg at the moment.

I very seldom see above 12mpg in my GranTurismo S. Think the best I've seen is 18 on a drive up to GreyPaul Nottingham and back.

That is shocking i'm averaging 35 mpg genuinely over the last 10K miles in the M140i

I guess to be fair, it's used either as a town commuting car, or as a heavy right foot car if I feel the urge to take it somewhere more interesting.
I think this is more about the M140i being a very impressive car, perhaps in an unexpected way!!
