try david askew for the throttl body repair,he did mine and i cannot fault the workmanship,to save on unnecesary labour costs remove the throttle yourself, its only a jubilee clip and four m6 socket cap head screws

It sounds like you need to get it away from HR Owen - £170 to diagnose is unreasonable.

Unfortunately I'm at the other end of the country, but I wonder if there are any other 3200 owners in your neck of the woods that could help out....have you tried fitting a throttlebody known to be working so that you can differentiate between throttlebody and throttle potentiometer? Just 4 bolts and 5 mins to swap the throttlebody over, which might rule it in/out asthe problem.

Guys, from the HR Owen diagnostic, its not the Throttle Body, its the pot at the pedal end. I belive its the same as a V6 Alfa GTV. If you PM Mike Roberts, he will confirm. That being so, you can either order it from Alfa at I am guessing, about 250 quid, or get one from a breakes for about 30 quid.

For 30 quid, I would go the breaker route and take a punt and try and save yourself some bunce. Its an easy fit, unplug, swap, replug.

Failing that, David Askew would want in the region of 100 quid for the correct one off a scapped 3200.....or there is a 3200 on ebay at present being broken, offer 50 quid, I am sure he will bit your hand off.

If you bring it to Ace, Ill fit it for you.

Anyone fancy doing a pictorial of how to change it?

Ah, sorry - I must have misread - I thought that hr owen hadn't actually diagnosed it yet (which was why I was suggesting seeing if dem could try a different throttlebody, as if the problem was still there then it would probably be the throttle potentiometer - i.e. the one by the pedal).

Get to decent indie armed with diagnostics kit AND suitable experience. No point just guessing, unless you have mate with smae car willing to donate parts for diagnosis. Try Grimalidi, not too far from london (assume you were going to HR Owen in London).

Good luck

The problem with "could be" or "maybe" is that it is just guess work - As rs correctly states above there is no point at all in guessing and therefore it needs a full SD2/3 diag to see what the problem actually is before replacing anything. It could just as easily be a vac hose from under the plenum that's come adrift etc Substituting servicable parts is fine if there is no other choice but that is precisely what the SD2/3 is for.

Normally my advice would be to take the car to Rob if you can but on another thread you stated that HRO had the car last - If this was recent I would have thought they could be a little fairer with the diag cost.

Hope this helps

they want £170 just to tell me whats wrong ...

Dear oh dear, it's amazing how prices at dealerships vary. The one I use regularly spent from 0900 - 1200 last friday morning running various tests on my dodgy battery, isolated the head unit, and gave the car a full clean inside and out, and let me use an office to work in whilst I waited. And that cost me less than half what you paid.

Might be worth a quick call to Verdi or Joe Macari dem if they are near you , just for the diag check out the price first should be around £70 then you have to make a decision from there from the results , i would sound out as Matt said Mike Roberts and David Askew as to throttle pot before you start ,

Haggle - or go elsewhere. Always tell them the fault which you need fixing (never what to do), rather than asking for specific work "clean throttle body". Try the get a firm quote or estimate for the repair. As stated ^^^ by Maser Sod it pays to have a good working relationship with your service team, be it main dealer or indie.
Find someone who sounds interested in the work, who will view it as a challenge to be solved.
