SM Audiophiles?

This post from TridentTested got me thinking, who else on SM is into HiFi?

I've been on that forum for years, I'm modestly into hi-fi but nevertheless find that forum great fun for it's out-spoken plain views without any interference from swear-filters.

Pro-Ject Xperiance
Puresound A30 valve amp
Spendor S5e
Some cheap but seriously chunky cables.
Also many many gigs of lossless files on the 'puter fed to the amp through a Beresford DAC.

Now, who here is into photography? Which forums? :)

Personally I find the Naim style sound a bit 'cold' and moved away from Linn many years ago after some appalling customer service.

So lots of valves in my system and currently using a Pink Triangle Anniversary upgraded by the Funk Firm, though I also have a Voyd 'The Voyd' sat in the garage.

Also like some others here have Sonos for less serious listening and TV sound.

I just play everything through my Sony 5.1 dvd player and an old CD player in the dining room when having a meal with guest. ..sad.

use Bose for CD DAB and iPod, but have a Sony all in one digital unit as well which works and sounds pretty good.

I used to have some serious guitar equipment, but now it's all sold. Always want to make a good quality hifi and some of the makes you mention here, are read by me for the very first time. Keep flowing the info chaps.

Oh yes. Though frankly I'm currently being transported by my Viennas. They come with gloves!

I auditioned some Sonus Fabers and Martin Logans but in the end I opted for a pair of PMC Fact 8's which I have to say I am absolutely delighted with.

My current setup is all Tag McLaren (getting on a bit but i love it)

CD20T
AV32R
100x5R
DVD32R

B&W P5 Speakers

But tempted to upgrade to a Naim system

Thread resurrection

OK have given in to the temptation and after 5 years have just dipped my toe into the world of Naim by buying a NAP200 and NAC202 to replace my current Tag 100x5R & AV32R, nice simple 2 channel HiFi only

I'm actually considering switching from Meridian to Naim (NDX 2) for streaming Tidal now that Meridian have stopped supporting Control Mac and have seen no signs of investment in recent years. I use JL Audio upgraded Musical Fidelity Nu Vista and Tri Vista amps and CD, Nordost cables and Kef Reference 207s. I didn't like Naim historically for being cold but that seems to have changes now.

I think its common among Petrolheads to also enjoy mechanical watches and trad Hi Fi. I'm the same, with a watch collection shared on this forum and a Hi Fi setup made of various components made over the last 20 years or so.

Cyrus pre and power amps and DAC, Monitor Audio GS30 speakers, Project turntable with valve pre amp, and Arcam CD player. Having said that, it looks good but I hardly ever use it, but do streaming from my iPhone to a bluetooth speaker or B&W headphones instead. What a Philistine, but its so much easier!

I've recently picked up a STD
65481

Current setup is
Naim UnitiQute 1
Spendor S6e floor standing speakers
Marantz CD94 (still being fixed)
Audioengine B1 bluetooth DAC
Rega Planar 3 turntable
Oppo PM3 headphones
Did have a Marantz CD6006UK which I sold on ebay to a guy in spain , even though it was in the original box and packaging they managed to break it so that's something else that needs fixing , just got it back and they've smashed the drawer mechanism

Been through various over the years, A&R, Dunlop ystemdek, Meridian Active, Counterpoint, Audio Research, Sonus Faber, Tag McLaren. Always had Linn though and my 30 odd year old Linn Keilidh speakers have a Linn Klimax streamer with their Klimax Exaxtbox Aktiv tri-amp technology (look it up if interested, it is impressive and works). Sounds great and if I want the more analogue experience I still have my LP12 turntable (I liken vinyl vs streaming to making an espresso from scratch (grind, tamp etc) vs Nespresso pod - overall pretty much the same result but one gives more statisfaction if you have time and patience, probably a bit like owning a Maserati vs, say, an Audi RS

Since moving a year ago, most of my traditional hifi gear is still in the loft - probably never to venture out - as is my surround sound kit.

I bought some Dali Zensor 5AX bluetooth speakers and stream my CD jukebox, Rega P3 turntable and phone to that. Sound is surprisingly good.

TV noises now taken care of with a soundbar and sub.

One of the reasons for making the move now is that for TV I have moved to Soundbar and sub more than enough for what we watch which negates the need for surround sound and hence the Tag AV setup
