If you succeed in undreaming it, then please teach us how to undream things as I'm sure we all have dreams we wish we hadn't had!

Actually, just write a self help book and make yourself some money on it to buy yourself some nice cake.

When I had hair it never grew long - just outwards. After several months could've passed for the 6th member of the Jackson 5 :)

Okay, back to my specialist subject but where ther should be some random bits of knowledge...

Different chemicals burn with flames of different colours. Very commonly, a "Flame test" is used to identify what metals are present in various compounds. so...
What are the colours of flames with these metals? They're all quite common ones.

Copper
Potassium
Iron
Sodium
Calcium

Bonus (but useless) points for "every day" instances where you see these effects.

From memory

Cu = Blue green
K = Red?
Iron = I'm thinking a red again
Na = Horrid yellow / orange
Ca = Hmmm, green?

Every day being November 5th is a start. Although sodium you see in (fewer these days) street lights.

Calcium is yellow/red.
Everyday use - plumbers soldering copper tube. Mind you how many use push fit connectors these days.

Cu = (Blue) green - Catman
K =
Iron =
Na = Horrid yellow / orange - Catman
Ca = Yellow/red - Navcorr

So two left to get. If there's not a correct completion when I'm back later this evening, I'll give you the remaining options to choose ;o)

Good everyday examples chaps - and of course, fireworks are the best!

Iron is the gold sparkles you see in fireworks.
Potasium i think may be a royal blue / purple colour. Not sure on that one.

Not really :)

Who invented = ?

C

That is a great question!

I actually know the answer to this, so will sit this one out, but will just say the answer proves that intelligent things can come out of Wales...

(* disclaimer - first 8 years of my life were in Anglesey, at a Welsh speaking school, and this was a story often told as part of the Maths lessons)!

I wonder where the inventor got the idea from

It seems to have stumped those few following the thread still!

As a 'clue' he introduced the '+' to the English speaking world....

I'm not being funny, look you, but that is surely the least helpful clue ever."
" Who invented the equals sign? "
" I have absolutely no idea. "
" Well he also introduced the plus sign to the English speaking world. "
" Oh, well, why didn't you say so? Now it is totally obvious.!"
