Had two both were projects.
First one stolen recovered ran for a year and sold for a profit the other with a seized engine put a good used one in from a specialist and perfect.
Subaru are tough cars.

I just picked up a 2013 VW CC 3.6L petrol all wheel drive coupe style sedan for my wife.
It has heated front & rear seats, air cooled front seats for summer, all the gizmos, big boot and launch control 0 to 100 kph in 5.5 secs.
Quite rare on our roads and meets the classy test.

No offence intended to any Evoke owners, but if we're applying an old-school "posh" test, I would have thought the Volvo wins hand-down.

An Evoke is a very nicely engineered car (if you can look beyond its squashed bug appearance!), but, let's face it, it's what Range Rover have introduced to allow more "less wealthy" people own a car with a Range Rover badge on the front. It's the "new-money" / flashy upstart, trying (successfully) to trade on the luxury connotations associated with the Range Rover brand (which has also gone a bit down the bling / flashy route).

Volvo, on the other hand give the impression that they know they don't have to try and be flash, so have stayed very true to what their brand has always been about - which I think is very well engineered, very safe, very robust, slightly "dull" looking cars which are close to being classless.

As such, if I were buying a car at that kind of price point, and it mattered whether it fitted in with the old-school upper class, I'd buy a Volvo over an Evoke any day of the week.

Why can't anyone spell Evoque on here? My parents had Volvos throughout my childhood as maybe I am just programmed that Volvo = Sensible and signifies my Mother not letting my father get what he really wanted!
Good to see such varied opinions and unusual car pairings from ranges of people.
Looking forward to seeing what Peter and His lovely wife go for. I hope she doesn't read the forum or she might be slightly traumatised!
Required size will be a big factor and we always use the X3 on long journeys as although the Evoque is more comfortable and is better equipped , the boot isn't big enough.
The XC60 is bigger than the Evoque is it not? (Which is probably a good thing)

You can get into a 50k miler for £25k. They're superb cars, very quick, great handling with limited body roll, they don't even sound like a diesel. There you go Pete, decision made.

The Evoque boot is small, a friend has one and it's ridiculously small.
For a 4x4 type vehicle you can't easily place a gun slip in the boot even diagonally. I guess for such sports one should have selected one of the bigger high end models!!

Dear sage of the forum.

GF wants us to get a 'sensible' car.

Req
4x4 - she thinks we will get snowed in (daft I know but not worth any more arguments) when we move to the sticks.
2014 or younger
Not too big as Charlie is only 5"2 and only used to her Mini.
Auto - for me and my buggered knee
£24k or less and no we will not borrow to get something more expensive.
Less than 30k on the clocks

Current poss are
Volvo V60 R design
Disco Sport - although these seem to be just over the £
Evoke

I looked at the Volvo and the Tiguan ( new shape) for my mother (aged 79). Ended up getting a Tiguan type R 2.0 diesel with DSG, about £25k for a 2016 model. She likes it a lot, easy to drive and comfortable. The Volvo didn't have the sunroof option she wanted.

Good luck with the decision making

The VW DSG box is awesome, Mrs Z has it in her Skoda and I have spent nearly 7 months trying to beat it with total failure to date

They are quite nice, lots of toys nice feel being spacious without feeling big

Yes. Surprisingly spacious. Looks like a big car in certain colours too (white makes it seem much larger, for some reason).

Quite a firm ride, so doesn't wallow in corners.

The top of the range model in particular is loaded with kit and very good value if you get an ex-demo or pre-regd example.

You might struggle to get a 4drive petrol at the moment but there are loads of diesels at good prices.

If you are Irish or Scottish you know why you can't buy a car called Kadjar. That should never have passed the naming committee.

Aren't they ridiculously unreliable?

I looked at getting the missus one before the ML, but the horror stories on the interweb were shocking. Even the new ones!

Mazda CX-5 Sport Nav, 175bhp, nice leather interior, permanent 4WD, mine is 3 years old, never missed a beat (as I would expect from virtually any new car!) it was £32k new, I will swap it for the facelifted version next year and not question it.
