Coming back to the brand

I have seen the light - my first Maser was a 4.7 QP V S which I loved, then went through 2 GranTurismo 4.7S and then a Ferrari FF and I now find myself back to a 2010 Maser QP V GTS -FMSH 20k miles in black - cant wait!

But I have a couple of questions (yes I have read the forums but the maseratiforum.co.uk is down at the moment) and I am UK based (Herts)

Sat Nav - Seen that some have had the Kenwood Touch screen installed - but that was many years ago. If I want to upgrade in a similar way, who are the guys in the UK to contact? Any recommended systems?

Trickle charge - Seen that some use a CTEK charger via the boot's 12v point. On 2010 QP GTS is there a 12V socket that can be used to supply a charge via a trickle charger?

Servicing - The car is 7 years old but has a full Maserati Service history - Do I continue with this or use a very well known (Scottish sounding) Independent Maserati specialist 12 miles away? If I go independent with, lets call him Bill, will this affect residuals over say using HR Owen or similar?

That's all for now - pick her up on Sat 22/7/17

Welcome home!

McGrath's have a very good reputation, mostly for the older models but never the less, anyone interested in the brand will appreciate independents over MD anyway so I cannot see it damaging the resale value.

Welcome :)

I think options are pretty much zero for sat nav unless you want to spend mega bucks.
Not sure about the socket but I suspect so

I'd go with McGrath

Enjoy! :)

Why did you trade from the FF? Running costs etc?
Can't help thinking Massers are serious value for money and one probably
Pays around 50k extra for a horse on it

Good question - ran the FF for 12,000 miles and a great drive but it was just a little to OTT for me - I prefer the cooler and less shouty style of Maserati and if u think Maser Sat Navs are bad ....the jeep er Ferrari one was a shocker!

Interesting you think that. I do agree in many ways. I miss the GTs which was a full on beast - massive occasion and perhaps not as showy as the F. Whenever I am tempted to pocket some money and go back to the GTs / strad- I put the top down and put my foot down and it's mental. Not sure it's worth the 50 k premium though! If I though I could get a fair price on part ex, when I have another little one I would consider a strad.

Strad for me next for sure. The GTS is too good and the only Ferrari worth the premium over the GTS/Strad is a 458.

A 4 seater to fit the girls in I assume Phil - I know they love their Dad to drive fast & loud! I remember your video from way back, very funny!

458's are just a totally different car though aren't they. 2 seats and low and wide as anything.
140k for an occasional car is a lot...
I still think the Cali is a good all rounder but value for money the strad is immense

I want a 2 seater for the whole theatre with roll cage and harnesses BUT after taking many passengers out and the kids at the weekend I need the practicality of the 4 seater and the Mrs said the 2 seater is a no go as it excludes us from family events.

Different from a 2 seater Cali? No not really, the Cali despite it's pitiful rear seats isn't a GT car like the GTS so it's much more like the 458 than it is a GTS/Strad. They dropped to £110k a year or two ago but have like most Fezza's appreciated since the 488 came out as they are now more desirable as the last NA V8 F car made.

Yes, it's a conundrum for sure - one of each is the only answer!

Indeed. As I have mentioned, you can get two adults or even two adults and a kid in the back of the two seater, but there are no belts and it is very irresponsible. Having said that I've done it a couple of times...

The roll cage would make it harder, but not for kids. I'm sure the ISO seatbelt threads are in the back somewhere?? Has anyone looked? That might make it a little less stupid to shove kids back there....

Or how about adding nice Sparco carbon front buckets to a 4 seater? They are the OEM makers. http://www.sparcousa.com/product/spx Maybe that would make sense if/when the 4 seaters go bellow 2 seater prices.

I can tell you It's ******** people criticising the back seats of the Cali. I have lived with it for a couple of
Months now and had several trips out with 2 friends in the back and the family. I am 6ft and my wife is 5ft 8 and had a couple of six footers in the back. It's the best compromise of GT and sports car for me.
If you are 6 4 and 16+ stone admittedly it will be cosy to say the least as would most 2+2 cars or sports coupes. Child seat fits in perfectly and it's very comfortable. With a 0-60 of 3.8, ability to carry 4 for reasonable journeys and hard top / convertible - it takes a lot of beating.
I was always frustrated in the GTs as it always looked a lot faster than it was- whereas in this even most motorbikes are the on the rear view mirror rather fast.
I agree with you and the wife re: 2 seaters being out- its only enjoyable to share with family and friends.
