Service cost threads?

Are there any threads that cover the traumatic topic of service costs? I've done a search and browsed around but couldn't find much.

My car will need servicing in September, and before I get on the phone to various suspects, I was wondering if anyone had input.

It's a 4th year service, but from what I recall when looking if the car hits the 2yr mark rather than the mileage one, then every service is likely to cost the same (I was told 2k-2.5k through main dealers and have one quote just under the top end of that thus far).

Interested to hear all experiences :)

Just had 4yr service (25K miles) which included the lambda sensors, cannister and MOT for a smidge under £2K
Normal service should be around £1200-£1500 depending on dealer.
This was at official dealer by the way.

That's a good price for a four.

IIRC list prices are typically £1000 for a mileage service, £1500 for a 2 year and £2500 for a 4 year but you can haggle.

Once the cars get out of warranty you can take a view on what is really needed; ie do the two auxiliary belts really only last 2 years, ditto power steering fluid and coolant. Same for lambda sensors and carbon can at 4 years but if you are on extended warranty then you should get them done.

The strange one is Maserati reckoning the spark plugs last six services which can be 12 years - longer than most!

That's a big point, although there will be those that argue against buying a car without 'full' service.

For example, mine's just had new plugs as part of the variator work (no point in not changing them) so that won't get done at service any time soon!

The thing is most cars with full service history don't have it and that is not necessarily a bad thing as long as fluids and filters have been changed within a reasonable timeframe. Try finding a Maserati over five years old that has had everything done by the book and you will have a much reduced choice.

2 year service being done on Monday £1300 main dealer. I know that when the 4 year service comes up I will tell them to drop the lambda sensors, no need to change them as a precautionary

If you are not on extended warranty then I would do the same.

I do actually have a WD warranty not main dealer and will err on side of caution and check it doesn't trip me up but absolutely no need to change a modern lambda sensor prematurely.

My QP service last year checked the sensors and were in decent condition - so no change
The guys were good (a local indie) and we have built up a good relationship which I think is important.
Even if they put new tyres on they give it a check over free of charge because they know now I will go to them for most/all work required
IIRC the cost of service was about £1800 with a clean bill of health at the end so I did not renew warranty
So what I a saying is you need to get out there for quotes, quality, proximity etc and budget £2000 I suspect

Have to agree with that - changing them is a complete waste of money.

And remember to shop around!

I'm getting my GT serviced at Maranello next week - £1,300 under their Monza program. Am skipping the Lamba and Cannister, as they probably don't need doing and they are v expensive. Blu Elettrico can you share the dealer you used pls?

Summary thus far is that quotes for the 4yr service (lambda sensors and carbon canister incl.) are between 2,264 and 2,699.

2yr service (ie no lambda and carbon canister change) are around 1,350. Not quite the disparity in pricing for the 2yr but still a 100 or so spread.

None thus far have been forthcoming on discounts (the higher price above was from a firm noted as open to it on earlier posts - and so they should be :)).

The official line is that the lambdas and carbon canister should be changed but *all* did note this was due to it being Maserati's recommendation and were happy to quote on the 2yr service :)

Lead times varied from 2-6wks. All main dealers.

Called one specialist thus far but they quoted on a different basis (annual servicing).

A few more calls to make this week.

I have more calling to do next week.

A dealer not too far away from Oxford!
I had both the lambda sensors and carbon canister done as car under Maserati extended warranty so no point giving any excuse not to cough up should I need it!
My experience with MM is they say they offer a price match but won't follow through on it.
I think with a little perseverance and negotiating the price can come down considerably.

Thanks for this. MD annual is about £950/1000 in my experience.

Thanks for sharing, good to know as mine will be a service in November so I'll see what my MD comes up with.
