Well fair play to you doing that on a gravel driveway.
Hope you were kneeling on something?
Phil.

Tope work, they look great. Assume these are the genuine Brembo as fitted to the 550?

Yes, follow the thread from the start and see earlier pics - Genuine 550 Maranello disks from Brembo.

NOTE - Discs now provisionally sold, thanks for all the enquiries.

Great News that the 550 discs seem to work! Maserati V8-good work..... but can you post the details for 'Brembo UK Ltd Logistics' as I cant seem to find any details for them. Nextdaybrakes are looking for 123.56 for a disc, and they are on ebay for 115.00 inc delivery. Both considerably more than you paid!

In researching brakes international (brakesint.co.uk) list different part numbers and prices for the 550 and 3200:

F550 Part no BDS 5670 78.69+VAT
M3200 Part no BDS 5672 51.73+VAT

At least the difference is in our favour, but does this mean they think the discs are different? (Not in any way questioning all your research and work maserati V8!- they look great on your car!)
I'm assuming at this price they are not Brembo, but I will ask!

Thanks, Floon

I have been reading this thread with great interest but must admit I'm a little confused, could we get a summary of where to get these direct replacements with part number, price & retailer please as it seems to be lost in the fog?

I'm looking through all the 550 links provided and they all seem to be vented (not drilled) disks, which isn't right.

Cheers Nick

Guys, all your questions have been answered in my previous postings - funny how things seem to get fogged up on forums...

So to clarify, copied and pasted from a previous post of mine:

Photos of front 550 discs as promised. Fantastic quality as would expect of Brembo. Nice drilled and countersink.
Just the last measurement to check against a 3200/4200 disk to confirm off-set and then we are in business with the fronts. Cost me 95.68 each including VAT and delivery. Came direct from Brembo UK Ltd Logistics.

http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/.../550rotor2.jpg
http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/.../550rotor1.jpg

And that last measurment has been checked and the discs fitted to my car with no issues at all\

One of the above photos even gives you the Brembo part number!

Prices may well have gone up as I purchased prior to VAT increase and new year price increases many businesses made...

Hope that clears things up!

(I have rears too which I will post some photos up and again the part number. I havent fitted yet but will do so in a week or two and confirm my findings on using 550 rears also).

I did not buy the discs from Brakes international - not sure they supply genuine Brembo's, I did use them for the front and rear pads though and OEM spec Mintex regulation 90 pads were sent to me which are fine for me

(Photo links not working - will resolve later or see original post on the thread called Cost of new brake pads, discs and shoes - page 13)

The discs are most certainly different, but clearly from Maserati V8's extensive research and trial they are the same dimensions as OEM for a heavier, faster car. The difference is the number of drill holes. Look at the picture below posted by Maserati V8 - the Maserati & Ferrari discs are side by side for comparison - 18 sets of holes on the Ferrari disc vs. what I think is 12 on the Maserati. I'm no engineer, so have no idea of why this is different.

Yes the drilling is different, that is all. The countersink round the holes is far superior on the 550 disc than on the Maserati ones it replaced on my car. The additional drillings on the 550 disc offer better cooling and the actual holes are larger in dia which stops the pad dust from filling holes up so easily (as per the Maserati disc in the photo above).Counter sinking is done as it stops the cracking that you can get round holes in drilled discs. On the 550 the car is heavier so the disc has to work harder hence why more cooling holes in the surface - Brembo know what they are doing!. If you want an identical Maserati disc with same number of holes/pattern, go buy the Maserati ones! For me these Ferrari 550 Maranello discs are the better option on my car. Look great, correct fitment and work very well plus not being ripped off at £200 per corner Maserati prices for a disc that actually on the face of it backed up by my investigations seems to be a little inferior...

Cheers
James

Great work James, seems you have softened the costs of one of the biggest bugbears of Maserati coupe ownership. This debate has carried for some time, nice to see a well-researched, documented and TESTED solution.

Let's hope that the price of 550 discs doesn't suddenly rocket on the back of this!

Floon,

The discs you mention from Brakes International in your post a page or two back :- M3200 Part no BDS 5672 51.73+VAT are not cross drilled, you will find they are Ferrari 456 fitments - vented but not cross drilled.

You must check if using brakes international for the 550's as they may not be genuine Brembo, could be a pattern make such as Brem-tech which they distribute. You would be best calling for clarification before ordering on-line with them.

Regards
James

James, thanks for your excellent research. I will also post a link to this thread on the Dutch forum because -as you know- in Holland we are more than interested in saving a penny or two!

Right, time to start on the rears. Again I'm confident that the 550 Maranello rears will fit my 4200. Visually they appear the same and dimensions taken so far match, but the off-set will need to be checked and I'll need to remove a rear disc at some point to take the datums.

For now though to keep the excitement high I have attached some photos of the rear 550 Brembo discs, again same excellent quality as the front Brembo's. Photo of the Brembo code number is shown, interestingly they are also Vauxhall fitments - the plot thickens! Would think they are probably the VXR8, cant imagine Corsa's requiring Ferrari 550 rear discs!

Enjoy the pics for now and will update on findings in a week or so - that's if my wife lets me spend another weekend "tinkering with that blo@dy car" (her words not mine)!

Cheers
James

I have forwarded this thread onto Gary at Belfast Brakes, the guys who do our refurb handbrakes and he is going to see if he can sort us a deal for the 550 discs.

Once again James, brilliant work, keep it up.

Great news guys...plus if orders can be confirmed with BBrakes can take over a few sets when over in June....cut out the £30 postage costs!

Will these replacement disks work the same for the 3200GT? Or did they change the design between the 3200 and 4200?
