Hi guys.
My GTS has been into Lancaster maserati today for a brake fluid change an A/C re gas.
After re- gassing I've been told the compress has excessive play in the pulley wheel.
I've been told not to use The a/c as it could result in the belt coming off and the car breaking down!
Anyway, been quoted £2500! Obviously not happy to pay this amount.
Does anyone know where I can get the compressor re-conditioned or a replacement unit?
The car has only done 26000 miles do not chuffed.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
This is a common failure mode with this compressor design. I had the same issue with my first QP. I sent the old compressor off to be reconditioned, but they couldn't repair it. I ended up buying a new one from Eurospares for about £700. I didn't discover the Megane thing, but I did discover that the same basic Delphi compressor is used across loads of Maseratis & Ferraris, but it's listed under multiple part numbers despite the same mounting points, electrical connection, pipe connections, pulley, dimensions, etc.
I found Eurospares was selling something that looked right, but listed for a different car, so I took my old one and compared them side by side. They appeared identical so I bought and fitted it and all was good.
They seem to have one at the moment at £725, listed for an Enzo, but it looks like the usual Delphi to me:

Eurospares seem to have no knowledge of the interchangeability of these compressors, but if they fit, I can't imagine why they'd have different internal specs, outputs, etc.
Any competent mechanic will be able to fit these. No need to unbolt exhaust headers, though access to the pipe unions is tricky. Get new seals and a dryer from Lancaster.
Oh, and I just realised - the advice about transferring your old pulley over to a Megane compressor is not fantastic (assuming it is the right part) given the failure is not in the compressor, which is stilll working fine, but wear to the compressor housing "nose" that the bearing sits on. I suspect that the wear is caused by a failing pulley bearing or, a slightly loose pulley bearing from new. My pulley bearing seemed fine, it had only done 45k miles.
I looked at cheap ones from Hungary, but they didn't have stock of reconditioned ones and I didn't want to risk buying a Chinese copy (you can find them on Alibaba), so I went with Eurospares.
By the way, if it's quiet with the a/c off, you can drive it, so you have a few months to fix it.
