Good/bad time to sell a GS?

After nearly 5 years, I'm thinking of having a change.

Whilst I enjoy driving the GS, it has stopped feeling as special as it once did and I'm taking the wife's Z4M out in preference.

Next month it will disappear into storage, emerging in March/April for tax/MOT/service/Insurance, so I'm wondering if it is worth putting it on sale now rather than £1k down the line, or whether there is a seasonal price variation that will swallow the extra?

Thanks

Paul

Paul, sad times but as you say, after 5 years its time for a change.

GS prices seem to rise throughout the year then tail off towards Xmas as you would expect.

I would keep it till the early Spring when people are thinking about buying cars for the summer and try then.

Highly recommend having a chat with Richard Grace about your dilemma. I'd be guessing but I'd say the market definitely slows down after September and then starts to pick up in March steadily rising until July or so. Your particular car's desirability will also be based on mileage, colour, spec (technocloth cars generally less than full leather interior for example), if its LE spec or not and service history and what an independent inspection throws up (I'd hope that anybody considering buying one of these would have it professionally inspected or buy from a specialist that has put it through an inspection and sorted all it throws up).

I am assuming your reference to "next year insurance" is a renewal and the car remains insured whilst in storage.

I sold my 4200 in Jan for what I wanted and close to what I bough it for in the summer of the previous year.

If the car us good/perfect it will sell no mater the year...and one thing in its favour will be the small number for sale at that time.

I had a Z4MC from new and had a friend's stored at my place for the last year, a very special one with lots of subtle mods. They are spectacularly good, better than the M3CSL, which I've also owned and now creeping up in value. Don't blame you for enjoying driving it!!

I'd wait until spring too before selling, the market is strange at this time of year and if a car doesn't sell pre-xmas, it could be a while as buyers often see one that's unsold as being a bad car, whether it's true or not. Why take the risk.

LE spec (although no heated or memory seats).

Full black leather interior, mediterraneo blu., 40,000 miles.

2 previous owners, bought from Marios at Autoshield who'd had it 8 years, so well looked after but a little light on paperwork. Since then 2 small and 1 full services at Carrs Exeter, plus one large service at Ftech, and sundry odds and sods done as needed. Had ABS sensor last year, cam covers and a few odd seals the year before, recent pads all round, front discs are getting to end of life, CV boots for the MOT this year, Clutch is probably about 60% left.

It needs a few things - wheels are looking tired, stonechips need touching up again, and the speedometer is for information only (though there is a 42000 miler in Eurospares for £300 so I was going to get that and swap them when the mileage matched).

Too my mind you should probably wait until spring and use this winter to sort all the minor issues and get it prepped as best you can, there is a glut of cars stuck between the 27-29k band at the moment with circa 40/50k Miles. And they have mostly been there a while.
Your colour will help but needs to be sorted to stand out from the rest, guess your decision is do you spend a bit and hope to maximise a return or just flip now in which case you could be holding on for a while and take a thump on price...

I'm in the same predicament here. After purchasing an E63 AMG 5.5 Bi Turbo as a daily 2 months ago it looks like my GS will be up for sale. I used the GS on Saturday for the first time since August to the Supercar meet at Castle Coomb and it still puts a smile on my face so in a dilemma now. The Mercedes is epic putting out close to 700bhp and 950 nm of torque as now remapped but a totally different animal than the GS. I really don't see a place for the GS now but after spending much money over the last 4 years she is perfect in every way and it pains me sell her. I need to have a think on if I sell over the winter or wait until spring. but for now she is tucked up in the warm at my unit and will be winterised until March.

She looked fantastic at Castle Coombe last weekend. Looked equally great at Wilton House earlier in the summer as well.

Anyone in the market for a blue GS in outstanding condition should arrange to see this car before (a) it sells, or (b) Panicracing changes his mind.

Thanks Ewan, yes she is a great car and will be a sad day if and when she goes but got to practical here, was all set to get here sold but after the first run out on Saturday since August has put me in 2 minds, she always puts a smile on my face, just got to be sensible for once and stick to my original plan, she will be up for sale whether she goes now or next year I am in no rush as she is stored in my unit in the warm and I can get to look at her everyday from my office, dont know whether that is good or bad thing.
