Hi all,

Thought I would introduce my self, I have a Boxster S 3.4 at the moment, but looking to get into my first Maserati ownership, have my heart set on the Granturismo (would have to be the 4.2 in my budget) Love being able to have the rear seats. I'm off to see a metallic black with red leather next week which I'm looking forward to!

Just been researching to find a good indie near me, and looking at parts costs... The car I'm looking at has got 52000 miles on the clock, Skyhook, and Bose with the comfort seats, and is up for 27990. I was looking at warrantys too, would you recommend keeping some funds aside incase something happens, or go for a warranty?

Welcome James, you've come to the right place. There's bound to be an indie near you, whereabouts are you based? Check the advertisers on the forum.
As for buying the car, check for regular maintenance and the bills etc. Don't just see one, do your research and check quite a few cars out. I saw quite a few before I found one on my doorstep, Maseratis do not come cheap unless they have a few problems. I saw a cheap 4200, drove down to Exeter and found rust on the A-pillars, it went like stink and was well maintained (the owner was a rally engine mechanic) but that rust on the A-pillar was a huge warning sign so I walked away. They cost a lot to run but more to put right, I'm not a fan of warranties or insurances so I won't comment on them.

Hi Martin

Many thanks for the reply, very helpful. I'm based in the Midlands, near Worcester.

There's another maroon one that I like the look of, further away than the other one though.

You have done the right thing asking
On here . Loads of experienced owners how helped me out
When I purchased my first. Speak to Richard Grace for some honest advice -he may be able to source a good car.
I think 27900 for a 4.2 is rich. People will be keen to get out of them to upgrade to a4.7.
I started my search with 4.2s, drove and heard them and then had to add a bit extra to get a 4.7 MC shift.
There is a chap selling a really good low mileage MC shift on here for 33. IMO well worth the extra over the car you mention.
If your budget has to start with a 2, then is should be low to mid 2s for a 4.2 depending on mileage. The best option would be to buy from a trusted forum member and know the Provenance of the car. I am sure there will someone on here selling and you could get a bargain

Dick Lovetts are not to far from you in Swindon too.

You can really see that the lower priced ones have done some big mileages, which is reassuring from a reliability point of view.

Welcome.

Don't discount the 4.2 Auto if you have to stick to a budget for purchase and or services.

A 4.7 may be a better choice but at sub 30k you will need to budget for clutch and brakes which together could be close to £6k.

Also a lightly used 4.2 is a better long term prospect than a leggy 4.7.

All IMO and I am sure the members will rebut me in a moment or so.

No rebutt here, perfectly happy with my 4.2, bought with 28k on the clock, now nearer 39k after 12 months

Many thanks, they look great, close too.

That's true, certainly good to see, that 80,000 mile one seems to look in better condition inside than the one with 50,000

Would be certainly a 4.2 that I would be looking for, still the lovely looks and the sound that I'm after :)

Don't mind the auto box as well, I had an XK convertible and found the auto fine with the paddle shifters

Welcome James your in a good spot for independent specialists with the Supercar Rooms and Vic and Bob can't think of their business name on your doorstep.
Nothing wrong with the 4.2 Auto.
They drive beautifully and 400 ponies is enough for most people.

4.2 and some exhaust mods. It's a lovely place to be, and a lovely car to drive, assuming you get the geometry set correctly.

I currently have 4.7 valved rear boxes on mine. It's very sonorous, but I think I need to have an unsilenced X-pipe.....

Many thanks for the welcome guys :)

400hp will be great too, the boxster running 300 at the moment, will be nice to have something loud all the time, the boxster PSE is quiet below 45mph....

The 4.7 rear boxes may have to be a future purchase! I've given Migliore a call too, really helpful chap who I spoke to, said he's happy for me to ring him when I'm looking round the car, certainly going to get them to look after it when I do have one!

I got Vic to do an onsite PPI for me on the QP before I bought it. Spoke to Kevin as well & both lovely chaps. Heard good things about them from others as well.
