How does it cost 50k to restore one of these? That is an awful lot of cash to spend on an Escort.

Where did it go eventually ? I love mine even though it's a 70s design it drives so well but it does have the odd mod or two

Alex Jupe bought it back, and has done a superb job on recomissioning. Better than it was originally. PM me an email addy and I'll send all the details :)

As said a replica!

Wrong interior for either 2600 or 3100 as a start but a nice looking car none the less.
Probably biased as an old ford fan and still enjoy driving them be it a Capri or Mk1/2 escort.

Things are relative and although not as fast as the Maserati they can be more fun at times.
The old story of bags of cement or bricks in the back just make me laugh - did anyone really need to do it?

I do agree prices have gone crazy but that's probably true of many cars.

Lots of money, but a Capri with a Westlake / GAA is quite something.
I believe Ric Wood owns the rights now and has been involved in some remanufacture, many of the current racing capris (with essex) have had some input from him.

The only capri engine that I can think of that is more extreme would be the little x-flow with the big turbo's!

The sound of a GAA engine at full tilt is something special.

These were competing on even terms with the BMW CSL in the 70's and were driven by many superstar drivers.

I think it's an epic car!

I really don't get it, they are crazy expensive. Can't help but think that the bubble has to burst at some point, and if it does, cars like the originally posted ones will drop first - non-original replica ones that is. £22k for a Capri is madness, and for me anyway, £22k for a wannabe one is unthinkable.

I don't think its madness, it's down to rarity now and what does £22k buy you? Not even a Golf GTI these days.

I agree, doesn't seem so crazy. Look at MK1 escorts, now that is more crazy for sure...

I have a picture of my father and grandfather with a MK1 RS1600 Escort when they owned it new, now that would be worth something today!

The bubble burst many years back so no reason why it couldn't or wouldn't happen again. A little correction every now and again to curb the madness is not always a bad thing.

As long as your not on the wrong side of course

Except it has plateaued in the last 12 months anyway but prices will still move on as it is where the money is these days and will continue to be until interest rates are sorted out.

Classic cars have been one of the best-performing investments over the past decade. Cars have outperformed watches, wine, coins, stamps and art over the same period.

Will be the first one to take the fall then. That and house prices.

I can't see it happening as I have been waiting and expecting it for last 10 years. As long as I get my houses built and mortgage paid of first it can do what it likes after that!

No doubt there will be a few blips along the way but suspect prices will continue to increase.
