Hey all,

Bit of input from you guys if possible. My GTS has been on the market for three months at what I think id a realistic asking price, its this one

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/...earchad/new,nearlynew,used/page/1/sort/locasc

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...mo-m145-s--------------------2010/5442792?v=b

To date I've had three calls, and some e-mails from the far east. Am I missing a trick somewhere?, I know there's little demand for these cars overall but I thought my pitch would have generated a little more interest. What would you guys change, if anything?

All critique welcome as always :)

Hi your issue at the moment is the market is flooded with GTS's and what with the end of production a readjustment in price is being experienced and owners are panicking.

You will probably be wise to keep it till next Spring and try again.

I can give a relatively inexperienced / snap shot view compared to Conaero and other senior forum members who have seen things change over the years - but I have been looking at things over the past few months.

Its simple supply and demand. Prices seem to have dipped a bit recently it seems.
Now there are lots on market so buyers can be more choosy.
As everyone knows - Typically they will prefer a trade sale from a recognised expert (if they have done their research) - Like Richard G, Nuvola, ADG etc.
Then they will try and get the best mileage for the money, and spec trim. MC Shifts seem to have a slight premium, +/- desirable additions - carbon / sports steering wheel, larini stuff etc.
At the end of the day - the car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it - if there has been little interest, regardless of what you think (its a nice car for sure) then if you want to sell now, you need to drop the price.

I would speak to the Forum seniors - (You already have the bosses opinion!).

I would DEFINITELY give Richard Grace a call if you are keen to sell. A very fair man with a vast knowledge of the market.

There are more standard ones surely? I think the issue is private sales. I'd not buy one without a warranty from a dealer.

I'm really surprised yours has not sold. Looked at the advert a few times and thought it was a well priced example and good spec. Maseratis are slow sellers but it may be worth asking a specialist like Richard Grace to sell for you as mentioned above buyers like to have a warranty on these type cars.

It's a stunning example, I'd say the problem comes down the number available, the fact it will soon be at 50k and for whatever reason people buying Maserati seem to think they explode at this point and therefore the price would have to reflect this, even though I can't think of a better car for £40kish

Standard cars (4.2s) hovered at above £30k for almost three years despite age, miles and condition. This has now adjusted but will have a ripple effect across the range.
Your car does look good value and at a trader would possibly fetch more...maybe that is an option, they sell on your behalf with a target return close to your asking price...they add on their commission and warranty cost and hopefully no prep is required.

I have been watching the forum and market for sometime now in preparation for a purchase in the near future and given what I have seen of the market, your car looks a lovely example in a great colour scheme. However given the miles I would be looking very closely at the service record and receipts for work done as an indication of the type of ownership it has had and assume many others would be the same. Perhaps you could include in the add the dates and service agent details to provide a level of reassurance for any potential buyer that it has been taken care of? You also mention recent warranty work, is this warranty still valid and transferable? If it is that would be a great benefit to the next owner and definitely worth mentioning.

On a general note and being someone who has sold cars of a similar value privately, I have found the difference between private and retail at the higher end of the market is generally far greater than at the lower end. I suspect in the mind of the buyer the risk increases with value, greater consequences if it needs repair work or has some hidden issue and is generally less convenient should they need finance and other dealer services like part ex etc.

Good luck with the sale, it really does look special.

I've noticed that ADG have had no GT/GTS stock for a long time so is it a case of don't want them rather than can't get them?

Have you tried getting one or two trade bids to value it and then ask £3,4k more? Personally it seems expensive. I got a trade bid on mine recently - 10k less miles at the time, 18 months newer - and it was less than you are asking if that helps?

Phil bought his recently from ADG but I don't know how long they had it before Phil bought it, not too long I don't think. Nuvola have a healthy stock of 10 looking at their website but in the case of ADG, I would expect it to be the latter

I actually messaged you on Autotrader asking for some better photos to be sent to my email but never got response back.
Its a nice looking car but in your advert you're light on details about services and also any additional work (its had advisory on Suspension Bushes on MOT - were they replaced?)
My main problem is that its probably priced slightly to high considering mileage, its not that it will explode at 50k but personally I'm looking for car that's got about 20-30k miles so when I put another 15k for 3 years its still going to be relatively low mileage car.
If I put 15 on top of 42 that nearly 60k and values go down to mid £30's at this point looking at higher mileage cars.

Reality of market is that its difficult to sell privately and expect similar prices to traders - I disagree with it but was on the receiving end recently when I sold my S4 making space for Maserati. Had to drop the price to something I didn't think was fair and buyer was getting good deal but it was still better than the trade in values I was offered...

send me photos if you can anyway so I can have a look at it in more detail.

Nero on Nero is the obvious issue although your price to my eyes is fine. I think finding a similar example and pricing 500-800 less will grab more attention, or perhaps advise that car will come with a warrantywise warranty if its not already but this will be 800-1200 quid.

It's Grigio Granito Chris not Nero..........

I've got to say it really does not seem overpriced to me.....How many 4.7's are less than 41k...There aren't any...This is the cheapest 4.7 on Pistonheads .... and has some lovely options so not a base spec car....To me it looks like a very good buy if a good example with good history......

My error mate. I think its just a Maser and unless its ultra low mileage or limited edition, they take a while to shift.
