American Football is correct... and you're almost there.

The 49'ers are so named after the year prospectors arrived in the area.
Joe Montana being their most famous player. Arguably the best QB ever.
Sourdough Sam is the name of their mascot.

The Denim connection was a bit of a stretch but gives the exact location. The 49'ers play at Levi Stadium.

There you go told you it would be quick, it actually the number of locks on the whole canal network min England and Wales only found out as we had the local canal bore sat on the table next to us at lunchtime, we were sat near a canal it was to be expected.
