A couple of QP's

My search for a QP continues, and I've been looking at this pair...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif.../page/1/radius/1501/postcode/kw15lj?logcode=p

and

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maserati-...7983989?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2edd1a4cf5

I been in contact with both sellers. The first one, when I asked about having an independent inspection done, said that was fine. But added 'if the sole purpose was to send an inspector to drive the price down, then lets save us both time and money'. He followed that with 'asking prices are there to be negotiated but I'm certainly not giving it away nor am I under pressure to do so'. Nice!

The second seller was much more pleasant, much more local to me, and is prepared to consider my car as a part exchange (which would save me some hassle). I have to say I don't think this car looks as nice in the blue, compared to the grey, but in the flesh I'm sure it would look different. Besides, there aren't enough images to give a good overall picture of the car without seeing it first. But the spec on both cars is similar for similar money.

What do you think guys? Does anyone know these cars? Is either worth pursuing, or avoid both and keep looking?

Hi Kev....The first one is no longer for sale by the looks of things.....

The 2nd looks a good price and one of the cheapest currently for sale........Well worth a look. Have you asked about the service history just that it says service history not full service history. find out about clutch wear to. I would go and see it and see what you think as it is a lot of car for the money...

Was the blue one a light blue colour...?

Thanks for the reply Andy. Service history is part Maserati and part specialist, but would need to check out who and when etc. It says 'recent' 4 new tyres, clutch and brake pads, so the 'recent' bit needs checked too.

The colour is listed as Grigio Nuvolari, but that's a silver grey as far as I'm aware, with the actual car being a dark blue.

Kev,

Assume you have spoken to Phil or Nicholas at PK in Edinburgh?
Chances are they may have seen the Aberdeen car or know about it.
They may also know of any customer thinking of selling.
I wondered if there was anyone further North than me but you are by a bit! ;-

Not sure by the pictures but the 2nd car could be black, defo not Grigio so they are not sure what they are selling. Get an inspection to be sure..!!

Doesn't look like great value for the mileage. I'd ask Richard Grace and the specialists to look out for a customer selling. It's easy to not buy well at that age and mileage.

I had one (a 2006 duo-select) in that colour. I bought it from Graypaul in 2008. It's a slightly strange cross between blue, grey and green, depending on the light and how clean it is. I bought it sight unseen and collected it a Maserati track day. Can't for the life of of me remember the name, but clearly not Grigio Nuvolari!

Worth a look, certainly. But be realistic when shopping at this price point. You can't expect a perfect QP for low teens. If you want a fully checked, serviced, warrantied example instead go to someone like Richard Grace, but be realistic and be prepared to pay for their expertise, work and after sale service (i.e. another £5k).

Price looks OK to me....A few have sold recently at this starting point with 80k up. 68k isn't high and this is the cheapest for sale apart from the 100k up car that neebs attention. Worth a look and inspection.

It's just that Andy, OK. It's not a bargain and it's not expensive. It just doesn't stand out to me. I'd be looking for a really good advert, enthusiastic, nice photos etc. It's none of those.

Agree with you there.....The advert sells the car and suprised how some don't give it much thought.

Thanks for all the advice...much appreciated.
I'm going to see the blue QP today. He's agreed to drive it 100 miles to Inverness, the mid point between us, so we can view each others cars for a possible exchange.
So we'll see what happens!
