£13k GS

I have a very good friend who buys and sells properties. He refuses to decorate before selling as he is utterly convinced it's a false economy. He calls it the "romance of the wreck", where people get excited that they may make a few quid with a lick of paint and a bit of elbow grease. The silver car is certainly that and looks like a disaster. The black could be but you'd need to inspect it for sure. I'd walk, it just looks too far away from decent to bother.

What you have to consider is what would this car be worth if all the bad bits were done, I say £18k max as there is a really nice dark grey one on Auto Trader for £19999 and that one is a 55 plate car with 66k miles and he would probably take £19.5k.
So now you have to decide how much you would need to spend to bring it back, I say re-trim in leather, re-furb wheels and paint work etc. etc. etc. will cost around £6k.
Peter I would not pay more than £14k as who knows what else could be wrong but I would probably take a punt at £13k.
regards
John (still looking for a GS)

Bidding ended at £15,200. I hope whoever bought it is intending on restoring it to a good standard. Should be worth a few thousand more than the purchase price once its all sorted.

Reasonably priced Gransport, needs TLC and some cosmetic attention, but if it passes mechanical checks it's not a bad buy at that money, if it has mechanical issues then it can quickly become a money pit as we all know..??

Utter bargain. Full history, sensible miles. A few minor scuffs that can be fixed easily and cheaply. This will have been bought by a dealer, who'll spend a grand at a smart-repair centre, then have it up at £21995. And why not?

Not sure it really was a "bargain".......needs clutch, cosmetics, maybe another few items and a service.........no change from £5k

Unless we know the buyer we will never know. The clutch could be OK for another 2 -3 years and if all that needs doing is the paintwork and wheels then its a bargain. On the other hand if the clutch has been abuse and needs changing, the tyres are just legal, and the a bottom arm is cracked then it could cost you another £5- 7K. You might then as well have purchased the £23k example from a dealer with less miles and a guarantee. I do hope it work out for whoever purchased it they deserves it a bit of luck for taking the chance, if its anyone on the forum let us know how it turns out.
