Is this 4200 a little too cheap?

Would say its someone who doesn't understand the cars...Modified clutch must just be a new clutch surely...... This has got to be worth a look if you are thinking of buying one...It's the upgraded 2004 model as well.....They sar at trade price which probably isn't far off.....Low miles as well..........Get it inspected and see what it turns up...If good bargain of the year probably.

Look at the pictures closely...NOt many stone chips and no wear on the drivers side bolster...It the pictures are right then they paint a good picture.

Anyone one know of a good specialist that could do an inspection in Pembrokeshire?

Having a second look...all coming back to me...its been for sale for at least three years and I would hasten a guess been sat un loved and un serviced over that time...hence why it's 'cheap'

Thanks for that. I knew I had seen that number plate on my searches before just couldn't think/remember where.

I guess it depends how bad it is and how much money it would cost to get it up to scratch also if the numbers stack up to do so.

The old ebay photos had it stuck in a soil surfaced yard.

Unless they have spent money maintaining it is coupd need a kings ransom spent on it.

I'd agree this is going to need a fair bit of cash allocated. These pics are 3 years old and doesn't do it too many favours back then. I would guess it is going to be a fair bit worse for wear now. Buy for £10k spend £5k on it seems OK but the risk is that it needs more and then becomes less cost efective. Even on this kind of car unless it is terrible £5k should be enough at a guess....without seeing it of course! Just the unknown which is always an issue. Could be a bargain.....could be something that works out very expensive. I am not risk averse but also not an idiot. Interesting one though.

Someone needs the cash yesterday. Or it's hiding something.

And WTH is a "modified" clutch?

How easy do you think it would be to sell privately for, say, £13-15k in December?

These cars are worth buttons if you need to sell in a hurry at the wrong time of year.

On the flip side without looking you don't know whether it needs £5k of work - big service, brakes, tyres, clutch - so it could be expensive.

As these cars get older, the price differential between good and bad will get wider and wider.

I would say these cars are always going to be difficult to shift at best with anything like this kind of thing. The right car or an OK at the right price I think will always sell....and fairly quick whatever the time of year of the price is low enough. Like anything I guess....if the price is low enough it will always sell. I agree for the wrong time of year as a distressed sale be prepared to have your pants pulled down. That is the exact reason why I never allow myself to be in a position for a distressed sale. My pot is not overflowing by any means but there is always a bit there to allow me to reach a decent price when selling.

I would always prefer to buy a cheaper car and spend a bit of money know stuff has been done and done right. Rather than buy a medium or high priced car that shouldn't need much doing but then finding you still have to shell out for stuff. If I had a crystal ball I would be writing this now I don't think ;)

You pays your money and take a chance....who knows what the future will hold. I had an R129 SL60 AMG for a few years that I sold to an enthusiast who wanted it at that time. The price was fair for both at the time but I could only sell at the price I did as I bought very cheap originally. Did some work myself over the years to get it to a better level as it would have been worth much less without.

I am not looking to buy and sell a 4200 in a hurry so it will hopefully be with me for many years. I don't mind investing a bit of time and money over the years.

Ask a couple of questions if the answers stack up offer 8k and see what happens , he can only say no , spend 4k on it if it needs it and you got your self a tidy car. . Simples

It's a strange one, I wonder how much the owner has lost by having it sat there unsold for 3 years? Surely it was worth a fair bit more then

Spot on Mav. Offer the money and see what happens. With that kind of price, provided it's not been in an accident and runs well enough, it's not much of a gamble.

8 Owners and looks very average. It needs to be cheap. Early original model as well so not revised 2003 model. There is a similar Black one up for sale that I was interested in at £16k so some massive differences in price. Seems like fair value at £8-9k though.

The leather looks a little worn and there's a parking sensor missing plus it has some sticky switches but to my eyes, it looks above average for any 11 year old car in my opinion

I agree Stuart. If I was in the market, I'd go look. No mention of service history. I suspect it's had a bit of a love tap looking at that rear bumper, but....
