Hi all.

Seems like the majority of Aussies here own the older Masers ie: 4200 and before.

Any QP and Grantursimo owners here?

Would be great to hear your ownership experience in terms of cost of ownership in Australia.

Long-time wanna be Maserati owner.

The older cars (pre-2007) can be imported from the UK at a fraction of the cost. I was recently quoted an annual service cost of $1250 and major service $1850!

Hi
I am new to this forum, otherwise Citroen.
I am seriously looking at a QP to replace the C6.
It is striking how many yery low Km cars there are for sale.
Strange for a big country.
Are these cars that thirsty ? On a long trip ?
Or is everyone scared to drive them too far ?
Perhaps it is just enough to have one parked in the garage.

Is it normal to need a new clutch after 40.000kms?
Apologies
Clearly I have some homework to do.
Cheers
Mike

Bell, I think that for some reason the Australian guys buying newer cars like the GT are not interested in forums or clubs. Many are using them as daily drivers and will probably change them over regularly because they can afford to.

Mike, the cars are thirsty when you drive them "with spirit" but you wont care about that I can promise you that :)
Having said that, I took my GS on a trip from Melbourne to Canberra for the Auto Italia event, I had my wife and two boys with me so drove with cruise control and got better fuel economy than my wife gets in her Toyota Prado diesel!
Re your question about clutches, mine had its first one replaced just before I bought it at approx 48000km

Hi Mike,

2 years ago I researched alternatives for my 20 year history with BMW's, "wanting to get the passion back" and discovered I could afford an earlier Maserati. As I looked, I found they were low km, as being used for special occasions? I wanted a daily driver and bought a 2005 Gransport with 90,000 km on it. I've done 18,000 km in my first year and had some issues to solve, but now it is up to spec to the point I won my class ( equally with Leon MCV ) at the Club Maserati concours in Sydney last month.

Forums all talk about the clutch, but after my first service with a specialist, who said it was set too tight, the driving experience became perfectly acceptable even in crawling traffic. 10,000 km later at my next service the wear had only gone from 63% used to 66%, which is a phenomonal result, attributed to always going to neutral at the lights and the free flowing traffic of Canberra.

Anyway, research, research and then do more research and find a recommended independent Maserati service guy in your area. I actually travel to Sydney for my servicing. Service people who are keen ( alfa guys ) but have never worked on a Maserati, will with the best intentions bugger it up.

Regards,

Sincere thanks for the replies and congrats for not running with the pack!

VMSRTI, many of the new Granturismo owners changing over their cars regularly? A humbling experience indeed considering these cars are $300k+ new. :)

Have driven a non-ZF Gransport and QP. Lovely cars. Unfortunately I have a sloping driveway so reversing uphill everyday I'm told with the DuoSelect will wear the clutch pretty quickly. Shame as those cars are a real option now price wise.

BL330, which Maserati mechanic do you use in Sydney? Know of a few so would be really helpful for my future purchase.

Hi Bell,
I use Road & Track in Silverwater as when I was test driving cars, they had 3 Gransports on hoists in the workshop, so I figured they knew what to with my car type. This has proved correct. Reasonable service charges too. Apparently less than Andrea Motori charge, though excellent work too. These are the main 2 indi's used by the Maserati club guys.

Thanks BL330 - Heard of and met with both those guys/outlets - was very close to buying a Maser GT off Road & Track. Good to know. Appreciate it.

Chrisbassett: That's a good point. Would it make a difference give I'm still reversing - but just down instead of up a hill? More clutch burned reversing up right?

Food for thought!

i too am a long time maza fan and will hopefully be buying either a qp or 4200 or gs in 2015 if all things go well with work. I just cant wait to get my *** into one, and it will be a daily driver, i have the slight advantage that my brother owns a mechanics business and has worked on many cars from lambos to bloody hybrid cars, but if an when he does then for me is another matter..... :battered:

Hi Moochung,

We look forward to welcoming you to the club.

Even after 1 year I still pinch myself that I have one of these.

The public love them too. I just came back to my car at the shopping centre to find a note under the window saying 'gorgeous car'

Enjoy the search and research, and talk to some independent repairers in your area for advice too.
