The insurance game...

Hi all,

My insurance renewal came through today, "your insurance will be renewed automatically thank you"...just short of £800.
Having bought the car half way through my last insurance, I had to pay a top up of £250 to effectively £650 last year, even though the confused.com quote was just over £500, but I didnt want to loose a years NCD.

As usual, go on confused.com, reactivate the quote from last time and the new quote was £470, gave them a call, put through to loyalty dept., helpful guy checked the quote, all the same, protected NCD etc. and offered me an upgrade on the guaranteed hire car from a 1 litre to a car with the same sized engine (lol) for £30 extra, told him I might be having to replace parts of the exhaust with much cheaper after market items :) , no problem!
Asked about wheel spacers and he said that was on the list of notifiable performance modifications, boooo.

The full quote was £503!

Made me happy anyway.

Well done, they try it on in hope you don't challenge it and just let it automatically renew! Robbers!

Never ceases to amaze me just how horrific a premium may or may not be..................arriving at a conclusion as to how GoT ends would be so very much more predictable!

friend had his quote, did the same as you and checked out confused. he got almost half price, when back to his insurance who matched it with not too much trouble. his response to the insurance company "as you didn't give me that discount at the start I am moving" I think if we all did this then maybe insurance companies won't play this game..... like most I played the game and stayed with my current ins.

I lost out a few years back when I changed from a discovery 7 seat to a tt, my insurer refused to give me a quote ! So I lost 7 months NCD ! Amazingly the best quote for a new customer online was them !!!
Just play the game.

We have used Pace Ward Insurance for a few years now for road and race cars and as it is owned by enthusiasts they do actually try and help, premiums down again this year :goodnews:

It's the difference that gets me. My classic policy is due for renewal in a month or so so I thought for the QP IV I would ring round a few to get a 3k limited mileage policy quotes. My current company were £250 less than the next nearest other - I think I will be staying with them again next year. RH Specialist by the way, really good I have 4 Alfas and 2 Maseratis on the policy now :)

I was 61 when I insured my 2007 QP with Churchill for £154.00 in Feb
Then £30 cash back
Fully comp only driver 9+years NCB protected, garaged 8000miles a year etc.
there was a faff on about the immobiliser but the Churchill boys accepted it was factory fitted and okd

That is cheap!

Zag, I use RH for the GTS, really good then all of a sudden the Spyder went up to £700. Did the confused.com thing and got it for half that.

It pays to shop around.

As for loyalty, don't make me laugh. Its a game, if you stay for more than the first year you get shafted, the confused.com deals are there just to hook you.

Just renewed in NI for £360 which for here is very good. Also just ordered 4 tyres at £400 less than last set, great news.

Just a heads up. I called Henderson Taylor insurance and they quoted me on a low mileage scheme, great price and also included 5 track days in the UK! Very tempted at renewal time in a few weeks.

I'm currently with Direct Line and pay £180 annually for my 3200 with declared Tubi exhaust. That's for 10,000 miles a year, parked on the drive way in Hastings.. 34 years old and full NCB.
