Quattroporte replacement

My dealer (H.R. Owen) thinks that I should be looking to replace my Quattroporte. Rosso Mondial, Dec 2011, 16000 miles. What's he offering, a Maserati A5 (oops, I meant the new Quattroporte, probably in Boring Beige)? So I decided that I'd keeping the car, as it is the Mutts Nuts and much better looking and most importantly, I love it! However I was surfing on EBay and came across a one year old Karma Fisker, Eco Sport in Deep Ocean Blue, felt that it looked great and negotiated it down to US$45,000. It's done 1200 miles and cost over USD130,000 new, but the Fisker company is teetering on bankruptcy and loads of people are running scared and many dealers are selling them off cheap. So am I astute, or am I the most stupid person around? - Your thoughts are welcome, but look at the pictures, isn't it a stunning car? Do you think I should have gone for a DeLorean instead???

Yes it's a left-field choice, but so what! it's lovely - and not a lot of money. And if/when Fisker goes bump, who cares? TVR prices have held firm in recent years. Be brave.

Would it be a US import? Not sure what tax mess and import duties it could get hit with. And frankly I have no idea of you're insane or not but I do know that I saw one of these in the Netherlands a month or so ago and it looked great. Real head-turner.

Good luck! And keep us posted.

My god that is a stunning car. Please buy it.

If you do buy it, please bring it to a meet so that I can see it.

What a cracking looking beast!

Fred, good choice on keeper your stunning red QP GTS....The new Audi QP ...Maserati QP just doesn't get any where near it on looks.....

The Fisker is not my cup of tea but very individual and would def turn heads where ever you went

It arrives on July 8th, then 10% duty and 20%VAT including VAT on the duty - a double whammy!! five weeks to get it approved, lights not blinding anyone, fortunately, the Speedo is in MPH, so that's easy, then registered, taxed etc. I should be on the road by September. Even though it's an Eco friendly car, there's no chance of DVLA recognition. This only applies to manufacturers who have gone through the hoops. There are options to personally register an EVer (electric vehicle extended range) but it will cost around £5000.00. I'll just save the world silently!!

I will bring it to a meet as long as everyone knows I'm a secret Maserati owner.

Always liked them. You could make a business out of bringing a few of those in.

Don't tempt me, it was difficult enough to get this past my wife. I've told her it's hers, to replace the Porsche, but she says if she can't cope, she's swapping the QP for a cabriolet. As long as it's a Maz.

Mmmmmmnnnn they have a habit of catching fire!!!

I think you may regret this, nice idea but they appear far from reliable and the lack of specialist knowledge in the Uk could be problematic.

Cheers Wattie

Thanks Wattie for the support, the problem was the cooling fans, apparently all fixed. Shouldn't be any quirkier than a Maserati which were pretty unreliable at the start, but look at them now!

Congratulations, a great looking car. Now, if only Maserati had continued to be so bold with design this could have been the new QP or Ghibli.

Bravo on two counts: (1) keeping the current excellent QP and (2) getting another really interesting car. If the Fisker company goes belly up the car will surely have some rarity value/appeal and it should be a hoot to drive about in. I agree with MAF260 – the Karma is a stunning design and a pity Maserati didn’t do something more adventurous like this rather than following the herd with the new QP and Ghibli. Would love to see the Karma – I assume there are very few if any this side of the water.
