Video Upload without third party services?

Is there any way to upload video directly without first having to upload it to a third party website? I (and many I guess) try to keep my private life as off line as possible - third party websites spread our digital footprint too wide. Would be a cool feature.

I presume you could post a link to an anonymous Dropbox file?

Or create a new YouTube account in a false name. I've created several for different purposes. And yes, I know the power of Google (them owning the 'Tube) knows they are all connected to me but random internet users never will.

Thanks trident. But that stuff stays on the web. Dropbox is about as safe as a garden shed, as are most widely used content services.

I wonder if the administrators or mods would consider allowing this, I imagine it is configurable in the forum solution?

Much appreciated. I run a hosting businesses so know a little about this. If you have a physical server you could stuff a cheapo disk in for the purpose telling the users "no backup" when they upload. Might be a nice feature for the forum.

Truth is I took a great sounding video of the Strad full chat through tunnels last weekend, and have been dying to share it ;)

A cheapo disc isn't really going to potentially last very long. I also imagine that the forum software probably dumps everything as its backup, probably storing the video in the tables itself.

Is a video of your car going through a tunnel really going to expose your ID? ;)

Well, yes. If you google my car, and my country, it pops up already (my exact car) so I guess I'm already hosed! But, lately, working in the business, I have become more aware of the damage of a digital footprint, and how exponentially it expands. Ooops. Probably should have written that either ;)

What’s the problem with putting it on YouTube? You can set it to HIDDEN if you don’t want it published and still share the url???

I have a Mac Mini in a DC in Dublin, unlimited bandwidth, i could try and sort something anonymously but need to research it first, not leave it wide open...

Host the file on onedrive and share it only with specific people, this is what I do with all my stuff.

Although, if you run a hosting company can't you just host it yourself?

If you own a hosting company then surely your answer is there?

You'd think so. But then I wonder what 'run' a hosting business actually means these days. No disrespect to Azapa but given what I spend most of my life doing, anyone 'running' that kind of business should (IHMO) have a level of confidence that they are capable of securing and maintaining securely that business.....

Indeed. We have a combination of physical servers we own our own 42u rack in a DC in Cockfosters, to physical servers we rent at someone else's DC to VM's in both & new age cloud platforms.

I guess a hosting company these days can mean someone that just rents stuff & rents VM's with little knowledge or know-how of how to actually build one. It is not required at this point really.

I'm old and old school so have built tons of desktops & servers over the years. However means getting my head around this new rent a VM for an hour kind of scenario is so very different & very foreign to me. Getting there though

Serverless... I'm trying to get that all sorted in my head! Are you thinking azure AD? Or sort of intune and SharePoint scenario?

Azure mostly. Fortunately I have people that are *way* better at understanding this stuff, and understanding what I am trying to ask them, to need to know *that* much. But it is my neck on the block. And the block has just doubled in size :D

Hahha! Yes, we have literally thousands of servers, IP's, all that stuff. But, thats my day job. I also have a few rather large clients etc. I don't mix this stuff, ever. Also, here (not wanting to say country name, but most of you know it) there is great inequality. It's a whole discussion we can have some time over a pint, I hope, but the thruth is, as an employer, one is "the bad guy". My employees don't tknow much about my private life, less even about my toys etc.

The thread starter was more an idea for a value add I saw for the forum owner. I guess quite a few owners are discrete, but at the same time, would like to see their pride and joy belting around on the interweb!

If anyone needs server space professionaly, or just advice, happy to field PM's
