Variator fixed on only one side?

I'm looking at a 2009 4.7 car that has invoices for - Camcover seal kit, 1x Variator and 1x Timing chest gasket.
Work is described as - Replace RH Variator. 35k miles ago.

Should they have replaced the left variator and done the cam cap upgrade too at same the time? Is it likely to need more work on this area in the future?

I've had both Variators done and cam caps modified on my 4.2 QP, and don't understand why anyone would only do one side; the only explanation I can think of wouldn't encourage me to buy.

Looks like a warranty repair so I assume there was some sort limit on what they would pay for
